ohhhhh i want to kill my teenage son. he tells me he will get more hours at work, when school is out.. now its the 3rd week in june and still stinkin 10 hours a week. we had a huge blowout yesterday and i told him to go and find a job or don't come home. i mean seriously, is it that tough for a 17 year old to find work?

2:3 chances that anyone with a college education and i slight training years, about 3 to 6 is really good, so just sta and finish college and you are good for any job.

well he graduated already. He goes off to college in august, and that is why im complaining.. His college is private, and expensive, and he promised if we sent him there, he would at least work 30 hours per week, to help with his living expenses. so i don't think im asking so much. I realize its hard to find a job, but he insists on NOT working at fast food places as if hes too good for that! i had many jobs throughout my lifetime, and its not the fact that i liked what i was doing, i just HAD to work, because my parents didn't pay for anything,... so i guess im just a little upset that he has shown no thanks, and not one ounce of ambition.

My brother was having an issue he was 17 he is now 18.He was working fast food and they would not give him hours to work even though he requested them.He also would go to various jobs and because he was not 18 they would not hire him.Even temp agencies would not hire him because he was not 18.It might be his age.He is now 18 and working for the city making alright money.

yes, he has an interview today at culvers, so hopefully we ae keeping our fingers crossed. whats with the 18 thing these days? wonder why they want them to be 18, even at any of the retail stores,,18.. don't they realize that these kids need jobs to pay for gas? they drive at 16!!! i always had jobs at 15 even before then babysitting. its ridiculous that this is such a problem.

It's actually easier today to find a job with no experience than it is if you have experience because companies are looking to cut costs by paying the lowest salary possible.

I don't think its very hard for your son to find work. The fast food places are always hiring. I see signs for employment all the time. I know during the summer some of the parks etc hires teenager for the summer.

Wow—Must be- Our kids are still in school- Friday is their last day here in NY- My daughter is only 10 so no working for her yet- Is your son still in school? I mean did he graduate? Heading to college- going to be a senior? If a lot of kids are looking for work at the same time- it might be hard to find a job- I don’t know- Are you in a rural area? Or a city where there are a lot of places to work- Darn kids anyways - lol

They are always hiring in fast food places, restaurants, telemarketing, and retail. Your son needs to start somewhere and be not afraid of minimum wage. This way he will gain job experience which will lead him to more opportunities, so he can work his way up. Places that are always hiring: Walmart (I use to work here so I know Walmart is ALWAYS hiring) Kmart Target Grocery Stores Home Depot (must be 18 yrs old) Rest Areas Theme Parks (available during summer time) Restaurants such as Olive Garden, Denny's, Chilli's, etc Fast Food: Burger King, Whataburger, Arby's, McDonald's, Wendy's, etc Movie Theaters Telemarketing (I had jobs as a telemarketer, so I know these companies are always hiring.) Up to date listings on local jobs: Snagajob: http://snagajob.com/ *You can always help your son call up these places and inquire if they are still hiring. Set up interviews for him. Spoon feed him so he can get out there and work. Hope this helps!
