most people nowadays, has one or two or even more cellphones... one cannot live without it.. when you wake up in the morning, you were awaken with the ring of your mobile because you use it now as your alarm clock.. then, send a good morning message to your love ones.. check your schedule on your calendar at your cellphone again..
whether you have the latest model of nokia, or the oldest; cellphone seems to be so important.. to reach someone, or you want to ask something, so you send a text message right away...
my cellphone is very important to me.. i have an mp3 on it, so when im bored at work, i just plug in my headset and play any mp3 at my cellphone, when i needed to say something to a friend, i just send a short message using my cp..
but of course there are also some that still considers cp as luxury.. like my brother who always want to have the latest model of nokia.. now he has N73, i wonder maybe next month he'll change it again..
to you, how does your cp helps you? is it a necessity or still luxury?

Hi larskie23
For me cell phone is a necessity .. I have an old cell phone but yes it's a necessity for me .. I do think about changing my set .. as it's a quite old one .. it's my first phone which I purchased in the year 2004 and I am still with this one .. but I don't mind .. as because I don't take it as luxury .. I know there are so many brands and new styles of phones in the market but I am happy with this old one and will buy a new one whenever I feel like .. there is no money problem or something but I don't feel the need of purchasing a new one when my old one is working fine .. I found this one as lucky as well -- may be I am superstitious about my old nokia phone model. It's a necessity in the sense when I treat it as a alarm clock / need to call my friend in emergency / expecting a call / talking to a friend when feeling bored ... and the uses just keep on increasing ........

If they made me give up my cell phone, I'd have to retire! I can't live without that thing, if only for the emergency phone calls. Often if one gets into a desperate situation, i.e. flat tire on a country road, then a cell phone would be most necessary. So, definitely it's a necessity for me.

when there's no one around, just a dial on your cellphone and you'll surely get a help right away. just make sure you have enough batteries to make the call. i hope you always have your cellphone with you on desperate situations. :-)

In this generation, I think cellpones are necessity.. We need to constantly comunicate with others wherever we go.. Who knows you may encounter any emergency and the only thing that could give you access to help is through your mobile phone.. One more thing is that we make transactions anytime,, especially for professionals and business people.. And this transactions are usually short noticed and urgent,, and the only means to such transactions work will be our wireless phones.. All the feautures added to the mobile phones are just bonuses,, what is important is that you can send messages and recieve and make calls out of your phone..

Hi larskie23! When cellphone came in the open 7 or 8 years ago, it was just more of a luxury (in my own opinion)... People just use it to play games and send forwarded-same messages. But right now, even if every now and then, there are new models of CP that are being introduced in the market, I believe that CP became a necessity.
It is an important gadget so that close friends and family can right away contact you. I can't imagine without my CP with me. It's the first thing I checked when I wake up every morning. LOL
Take care and God bless! (",)

cell phones are a necesity today as one can keep in contact with anybody even when one is on a go. There is nothing luxurious about it unless you are using it as a digital camera rather than keeping in contact with others. It has now become a very good tool as a scheduler to plan for events which are forthcoming and a good way to keep track of ones mails etc without the need to be on your desktop.

i like you comment, good point. as long as you find a need for something, there is nothing luxurious in it, even if it's expensive as long as it has a great use for you, then it is a must. thanks for your response.

I have a cellphone because it's necessary to have one. It's too expensive to have as a luxary, that is to say, it's too expensive to talk on my cellphone just because I want to talk to someone. I only use it to contact people on the road when I have to, not as a day-to-day pleasure.

hello larshie,
i would say its a necessity as well as luxury item.intially when cellphone came into market,it was a symbol of luxury, though it was a necessity as well.but since it was into the list of luxury items, everybody couldn't afford it.and mostly rich people had it.
but now as more and more cellphone manufacturing companies are popping up,a swift competition has developed among them.in the process cellphone has a become a common accessory for everybody.everybody can afford a cellphone.so why wouldn't we keep one?
and due to this the luxury tag that was given to cellphone has gone and now its rather a common necessary accessory than luxury.it helps us a lot in emergencies.moreover new cellphones are coming with lots of trendy features, that too with reasonable price.
i personally own three cellphones with different tariff palns that suits me and i can't live without any one of them.

no its not that expensive.my first cell phone was gifted to me by my dad.then i purchased next two.and i got them when there was an offer.moreover cellphone prices have gone very low now.i have one that i don't have to recharge monthly but once in 6 months.another one has its offer till now with 6 months incoming free.so i use it for receiving purposes only.and the third one is the one i use frequently but i give only the monthly tariff and no charges for calls as calls are free in it.so all goes well with me.its not that expensive.

I think that if they were neccessity then there still would not be a lot of people with them anyway.
I have my cellphone but that's for a few reasons
A.) I have some Medical Conditions that I feel safer having one
B.) I have it to keep in contact with Family if they are away or I am away from them and
C.) I HATE landline phones, so I would far rather have one and not have to always talk on a landline.
So in saying that it is both a luxury and necessity.

It can be both depending on the attitude of the person. If he/she is the kind who goes all the way to getting the newest and sleekest design then he/she isn't being practical and goes for the luxury side of the cellphone.
On the other hand, if he/she doesn't see anything else in a mobile phone and only as a means of communication then that's more of a necessity.
I guess it's a personal thing. There are those who just can't help but see other people having better phones than his/her. Media does indeed play the Devil's Advocate role.:)

cellphone industry is a big business, the more people frequently changes their unit the more money will come to them, so even if your unit offers a lot of features already, the cellphone company would release another new unit, that has added features on it. and so your unit becomes outdated that way, the consumers would crave for the new ones.

ofcourse it has now become a necessity! if u dont have a cell no. its considered a big negative these days. Some times its very convenient too, like to keep track of our loved ones and dont worry about were they are.
Ya for some people its a status symbol, and they keep changing it once in a while to show they are still on top, i dont quite agree with that since there are much better ways you can show that you are on top rather than just keep updating your mobile phone.
I dont regard it a s a luxuary any more, its very essential to have a mobile in todays fast world where time matters a lot.

I regard cellphones as a necessity. Mind you, I do not have two or more cellphones like you probably have over there in the Philippines and other countries where the rates are lower, but I have one I bought a couple of months ago. I am trying to win another in a contest for my husband. I figure with pay-phones disappearing, and if I get stuck somewhere, it is best to have a cellphone to rely on.

yes, many people here have 2 or more units of cellphone, cellphone companies offered prepaid so you want have problems on billings, just purchase the amount of credits you want to have for your cellphone. like a friend of mine who has 3 units each for the 3 cellphone companies here.
i hope you win in the contest!! :-)

I treat it as a necessity. It's very handy that I could bring it wherever I go and something that connect you to people in any place in case of emergencies. It is also a luxury to others because it could somehow use for financial problems. They can pawn it.

yes, funny but its true that if you needed immediate cash, you can pawn your unit. sometimes i joke my brother that i will get his cp and give to the pawnshop.

i consider the cellphone a necessity nowadays considering the kind of life we live -- fast-paced.. we have to really consider taking advantage of the available technology. however, a cellphone may also become a luxury. generally, we use the cellphone to send SMS or use it to call. a lot of people now take advantage of the other features of the cellphone which actually makes the product very expensive. when we spend much money to buy a cellphone though we don't use much of its features, it is a luxury. i have seen so many people using the more expensive phones out in the market but they don't actually know how to use the other features of their cellphones. i also have seen several elementary and high school students who use the most expensive cellphones in town. wow! that for them, is luxury...

then, this kids are very lucky coz their parents can afford to buy them these cps. if you remember when you were in grade school the only thing that you can have is a family computer, a gameboy among technologies, i dont think pagers are already available that time. walkman i think. but now, there goes the ipods.

well, it just depends. for some people it is a necessity. i mean that because some people's jobs require that they be reachable 24/7 no matter where they are and a cell phone allows that. but for other it's a luxury. even if they feel they're so addicted to their phone that it's a necessity, if it isn't REALLY needed it's just a luxury.
