If you're going with friends, definitely hit Haight-Ashbury. It's where all the funky shops can be found, and the people watching is great. There are lots of strange and interesting people there. Walking on Fisherman's Wharf is a lot of fun too. There are some really talented street musicians who play there, especially at night. If you can get to the Jelly Belly factory, that would be a blast with a group of friends. My favorite place is City Lights Bookstore, which is downtown.
