Money Eating Dog Devours a Pound of Bacon

Some of you may recall my discussion from several months ago about my dog eating a $20 bill. Well, today I had cooked a pound of bacon in the oven. It was about to expire so I cooked the whole thing. I proceeded to leave the bacon on some paper towels on the couunter so it could cool and soak off some of the fats. While I came back to the computer, the dog reached up on the counter and dragged the paper towel down. She then proceeded to chomp down about 20 pieces of bacon. She was right behind me about 12 feet away. I never heard her at all. I called the vet and they said to give her some peroxide mixed with syrup to make her vomit. I tried this, and she gobbled it up, but didn't come close to vomiting. I tried it again and she wouldn't touch the stuff. So far she seems to be ok, acting normal. The vet said she might get sick and then she might need to go into the vets if she does. I am hoping she will be ok. Anybody have this kind of experience before? Do you have a dog that eats whatever? What has your dog eaten that she/he shouldn't have and did it get sick? Thanks.

First of all I have no idea why the vet would suggest giving a dog peroxide...that sounds completely asinine to me and if your dog gets sick it would be from the peroxide not the bacon!! I could see using peroxide for cuts or wounds..but to give internally...are you sure he's a competent vet? I mean would a doctor suggest giving a child peroxide internally?? I don't think so

Yeah, I was a bit taken back by this idea. She said to mix a tablespoon with some syrup to induce vomiting. This was about 9 hours ago and the dog seems fine with no problems. She never did vomit.

I've seen a friends dog take a link of sausage and run away with it. Which cost about 8 pounds (uk) They wasn't very happy as it was for a party. :) Thanks for sharing! ~Joey

Hehe. Well they didn't see him until a day after so I'm sure he was snug and hidden away somewhere :P I don't know I'd be laughing if I paid for 'em lol ~Joey

Oh sugar, I am very sorry to hear this. I am going to pray right away for her. I have a cat that does things like that. The other day, she was caught red handed on the table, stealing bacon in her mouth. But, we got it out fast. Please let us know how your dog feels. I'm praying now. God bless, M&M

Naw, it just would have made me fat...lol. But I was looking forward to and egg and bacon sandwhich for lunch. Oh well, at least the dog had a scrumptous meal. I can't imagine eating raw bread dough.

no, no, no.. you are correct. I was wondering about the freshness of the bacon. That is a good point. The dog was simply looking out for my best interests...that is a good one...thanks...lol

We have a German Shepherd like I have nicknamed garbage-gut. This dog will anything and everything in site. My fiancee cooked up a platter of pork chops one night for dinner. It must have been about twelve pork chops on the platter. Anyway she set the food down on the table and went outside to get the children and myself. One of the neighbors stopped by to talk so it took an extra few minutes for us to come back inside. Apparently garbage-gut thought that she had set up a buffet for him on the table. He had eaten all of the pork chops and side dishes. The only thing he left was the watermelon. He didn't have any ill effects at all. We thought for sure he was going to be severely sick.

Wow. Thanks for sharing that. 12 pork chops? That has got to be about 2 or 3 pounds. I am sure garbage-out is a nice dog despite helping himself to your dinner.
