Do you recall the first song you learned to sing?
I can remember my mother teaching me "Down in the Valley" I was around two years old, we were traveling across country in the blue station wagon. I did not learn all the verses at that time, just the refrain.
"Down in the Valley, the Valley so low - hang your head over, hear the wind blow. Hear the wind blow dear, hear the wind blow.
Hang your head over, hear the wind blow"
There were a couple of songs in grade school music class that stuck with me through the years:
Goober Peas and Orion is arising.
of course there were the kindergarten songs of "the farmer in the dell etc" hah! when I first started typing this discussion I was only thinking of Down in the Valley, now so many are popping in my head. But definitely down in the Valley was the first I learned (I think, hehe).

The very first words I ever said, I mean first words, were not dada or mama they were
Sing, sing song.. sing loud... sing stwong... lalalalalala
now I will prvide the real lyrics..lol
Carpenters
Sing
Sing, sing a song
Sing out loud
Sing out strong
Sing of good things not bad
Sing of happy not sad
sing, sing a song
Make it simple to last
Your whole life long
Don’t worry that it’s not
Good enough for anyone
Else to hear
Just sing, sing a song
La la la la la
La la la la la la...
Sing, sing a song
Let the world sing along
Sing of love there could be
Sing for you and for me

Last kiss was my first song learnt word for word and believe it or not I still remember the words. Just married was a big hit and my daughter could sing that Marty Robbins hit from start to finish by the time she was three.

When I was younger than 2 I knew all the words to "Bad to the Bone". I don't remember them now... But my mom loves to tell that story to anyone who will listen.

Other than the ABC song, it would have to be
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
you make me happy when skies are grey
you'll never know dear
how much i love you
please don't take my sunshine away.
Mom used to sing this to me in the bath tub everynight, so by 5 years old, I was already harmonizing with her! Nice thing is...we still sing it together and I have taught my little ones too!

The earliest I remember singing was the "on top of spaghetti all covered with cheese, I lost my poor meatball, when somebody sneezed" song. That is probably not the first I really learned, but the first I remember. I think I was about 3 when I remember singing that.
