My grandma died from diabetes, does this mean that there is a chance i could have it? I heard that it runs in the genes. How can u tell that u have it, is there any symptoms?

Hi, It is better to do a blood check or urine check once in a while if you are scared. There are kits available now a days with which you can do it at home. Some common symptoms are: frequent urination Excessive thirst and hunger Unusual weight loss Blurry vision Irritability Hope you are not having any problem. take care

When your blood sugars are too high you tend to dehydrate...excessive thirst is one symptom. Also your body cannot utilize the food you eat hence the constant hunger and weight loss. Fatique and irritability are aslo symptoms as others have already told you. My grandparents had type 2 diabetes so far I'm the only one in the family I know of with type 1. Which I have been since the age of 16. If you suspect you have diabetes see a doctor asap so you can start treatment if indeed you do have it. best of luck to you.

I have a squidoo lens that explaines what type 2 Diabetes is, what the symptoms are and how to control this disease. Please read it , it could save your life. I get emails from people who get tested for this disease after reading it. Most of them are diabetic but did not know it. If anyone in your family has or had diabetes you have a greater chance of having it too. I also have a blog about what to eat and not eat(with recipes) if you have this disease. Please visit http://www.squidoo.com/sixapart/Diabetes Please let me know if this information helps you. Have a great day and a safe weekend. Kowgirl
