Have You Ever Been Pharmed?

Pharming is the latest method used to scam people using the Internet. How commom is this? Have you had this happen to you?
What is "Pharming"?
Pharming redirects Internet users to a fraudulent website, even when the correct address is entered. There are two common ways pharming occurs. Hackers can change the host files on a computer by infecting it with a virus. Or, they can tamper with the computer's server software to enable them to capture an internet address that a user enters and replace it with an internet address for a fake Web site. Once at the phony Web site, unassuming victims are asked to provide personal information such as passwords and usernames that criminals then capture.
What can you do?
Do not access any Web sites that look suspicious or do not appear to be authentic. Also, make sure that all Web sites you access have addresses that begin with "https". These first five letters indicate that the site is secure. Keep in mind that seeing https:// does not guarantee that you are at a secure site. If you are unsure of a Web site's validity or are asked for anything out of the ordinary, contact the Web site before entering any information.
This problem is just another of the many schemes to be aware of. Thanks for reading.

Some people just have too much free time on their hands! They also have a cruel sense of humor! Why do people do these things? Are they just too lazy to get out and get a real job and earn money the honest way? I have been receiving alot of email from ebay and paypal that are not reallly from them. I always forwared them to the company and they werivul that it is not from their company. I just wonder how many people do not know the difference though. I only go to paypal and ebay with me personally typing in the site address and I do keep my virus scanner up todate as well as my phishing scanner

Nope never had that happen.
I am careful when browsing sites and I don't access ones I don't like the look off. (from checks and things) which I won't get into.

Hello Sigma,
Although I have heard of pharming, I have never personally experienced it.
I appreciate you sharing this info., because many do not know of the latest means by which criminals can steal our personal information. So, your post arms the average joe, which makes a hackers job that much more difficult. So, thanks!!!
