Cookies as a Graduation Gift?

We will be celebrating my nephew's recent graduation from high school this weekend. As money is really tight, I have decided to make him a batch of chocolate chip cookies and also some chocolate dipped pretzels. He loves getting goodies from me. Some may think it cheap of me, but I know that he will appreciate the gift.

You know that he will like them, and they represent a personal effort from you. I think it is a good idea. If you feel like it is not enough, enclose a personal gift certificate for a batch of cookies every month, or for finals week, if he is off to college. You can send him certificates that he can redeem at his choosing, also. He sounds like a great kid. I hope you all have a really good celebration this weekend.

Nick has always been the type of person who is thankful for any gift I have given him. That is one of the reasons why he is one of my favorites.

He knows it is a chore to bake anything in the summertime. But, today is cooler so it won't be too bad!

Gifts from the heart are worth so much more than the ones you buy. You will be putting time in this gift and nothing in this worls is as expensive as time!

I think it a great idea. Just showing you are thinking of him and you are proud, is enough. He is probably thinking more about that big graduation party his friends are planing anyway, LOL. btw, chocolate pretzels are my favorite, I graduated in 1990, but you are more than welcome to congratulate me now, ;0D

I think a home made present is a great idea. People can't always expect that one can afford to buy something, especially the ostly items some people expect nowadays.. As your nephew loves your cooking, he will be more appreciate of this, than some useless gift. We are going to my cousins 60th birthday party tonight, & not bringing any present. We were told not too. I have bought a funny card for him.

oh yes that sounds like a very lovely gift . Most all boys/men like food unless especially cookies and pretzels . Unless he happens to not like chocolate. I met fellow who didn't like chocolate.I thought he was nuts, he told me though he like cheesecake just as much as I liked chocolate . Homemade gifts are sometimes the very best of gifts. They are practical . If you goth a pen or knick knack that was dated , it might very well sit on a shelf and gather dust .

Honey, that is an awesome gift! It is not cheap, it is from the heart. As the years go by, he will forget what everyone gave him as a gift, except yours. He will remember the love and time you spent to make him happy. Bravo dear. Huggers, M&M

I don't think you are being cheap at all. I for one, love getting homemade goodies as a gift. If your nephew will appreciate the gift then thats all that matters.

I think its a good idea and anything you make for someone comes from the heart. He will greatly appreciate it. And you just being there is nice. Have a good time there and lets us know how it was.

I think the gift is fine- It comes from the heart- Sure most of us give money and really all the graduate does is add up how much they got- and what can they do with it- He will remember that you gave him cookies and pretzels- I won’t say that it is cheap- it’s a gift of love- that is what really matters-

Then make it the best chocolate cookies you ever made and the best chocolate dipped pretzels. You have to make them so that he won't eat them in one night. He's still a teenager and they have very big appetites. Hope he enjoys them.

I'm sure he'll probably be getting plenty of money from everyone else. I'm sure he'll appreciate the time and effort used to make the goodies he enjoys. Anyone can pull out some money and stuff it in an envelope. I think it's a good graduation gift.

It's really nice, first of all, that you all get together to celebrate an occasion such as this. Many families I know, don't celebrate graduations, and 'some' not even birthdays. I think homemade treats make wonderful gifts. I'd sure love to receive something like this, and I know my daughter would too. You're a very caring, considerate aunt. Enjoy the celebration.:)

I think cookies and chocolate covered pretzels make a great gift. I'll bet he looks forward to your gifts more than he would a money gift. You're putting more effort into the gift, and it's something that will be appreciated. I love homemade gifts myself, especially if they're edible.
