I completely agree! after I heard St.anger I couldn't believe it was the same band. I went and saw them at reading shortly after they released the ablum, I was really looking forward to seeing them but it was a real let down, mainly because of them trying to promote thier new ablum buy playing alot of new stuff. Hopefully they will have seen the error of there ways in the fans and their new ablum will go back to their old style

Metallica has kind of sold out after the whole Napster fiasco and never sounded the same afterwards. But I'll agree that their older albums were tons better.

Metallica is and always will be my favorite band. They got me into metal and ever since hearing Ride the Lightning, there was no turning back. But, that being said, I have to agree with you and the others that St. Anger sucked, and what preceded it (Load/Reload) wasn't all that great either (though there are a few songs I like to listen to occasionally). I doubt they'll ever release anything like their first 5 albums again (true masterpieces), but I think their new album will at least be a respectable and decent release. I think one of the major problems with St. Anger was just that the band had so much going on. Sure, they ventured into and made hard rock the focus of Load and Reload, but I think they just wanted to try something new. With St. Anger, they were obviously ready to make some more metal again, but I think their creativity was hindered by all the tension in the group, finding a new bass player, and on top of that, dealing with the anxiety of trying to keep their fans after years of no new material. As long as they can still play their old material live, they're still pretty much the same band they were before, (well, with a different bassist, anyway).

In 60% they are not old metallica, but they are still quite cool band. (I'm so excited, i'm going to see Metallica at wembley, next week)

I like several of Metallica's songs, but haven't heard their latest yet. So can't tell you whether I like it or not. By the way, is that a photo of you in your avatar?

Hey man, like you im a big 'tallica fan to, and was dissapointed with the st anger album, but after watching some kind of monster I think there was a lot of things up in the air; james's "addictions", losing a band member, that therapist dude making them work out s**t from years gone by, not that it wasnt needed but I think it was at the wrong time. Any way with all this going on at the same time, I can imaging that it wasnt the best time to be writting an album. I for one am going to with hold judgment untill I hear the next offering.
