do you answer a call from an unknown number ?

i used to answer it, but recently i stopped answering it
it's a friend who first told me this, but i think it's rude to not answer it
and i think i'm wrong
on the past month, some unknown number had became very annoying
some calls are from insurance agent, some are wrong numbers which ended rudely, and some are from my friends whom i avoided most.. hahaaa LOL

well i do. although somtimes guys call up wit weird friendship requests whch i jus hate. but oherwise also i do pick up calls since i nvr knw wen som emergency call it might be!

a few days ago i received a call here
when i said hello, there isn't any reply from the caller and the phone rang again for at least three or four times
some relatives once told me that such calls could be from a burglar for checking how many people around the house
it is much more pleasant to receive such of your calls than mine heheee, LOL

If I don't know who the number belongs to, especially 800 numbers, I won't answer. If they want to talk to me they will leave a message for me to call them back. We have been getting a lot of telemarketing calls lately and I don't feel like dealing with them. They also tend to call at bad times, like when we're trying to eat dinner.
Our local newspaper has been calling once a week to try to get us to resubscribe. I cancelled because we never read the paper so it was wasted money for us, not to mention newspaper. Now they constantly call wanting me back. I've asked to be removed from their list and they still call. We just don't answer anymore. If it were really important they could leave a message and I could call back. Only 1% of those calls actually leaves a message.

you are right lisado, telemarketing is one of the most effective on marketing plan
on one side, i also understand how their tasks
but on the other side too, their job really disturbed us LOL
i once received a call, who offers me a cough medicine ?

No, I don't like to answer when the number is unknown. I prefer don't answer and wait, if it's someone i know, he'll send me a message to advice me _

I will answer all my calls whether I know the number or not. If someone try to sell something to me, I just answer them politely or tell them that I am not interested in it. If he/she still insist to continue talking to me, then I 'will try my best' to find 1001 excuses to stop the conversation *laugh*
For the case of wrong number, it is okay for me. I will not get angry at the person who wrongly pressed my number. Sometimes, I did that too. A simple word like 'Sorry' will do for me *smile*

nice opinion, yes a single 'sorry' would be best to end the conversation.. but i think most people here need a short manner course
many of them just hung the phone instantly, and it's really annoying LOL

I used to not answer unknown numbers, at least not on my cell phone. I don't want to waste mintues on people I do not know. However, recently I have been answering whatever number that comes through, now that I have a friend that has to call from whereever he can. I don't think it'r rude to not answer though, if it's important, they leave a message.

yeah its too irritating to answer unknown call but as far as call from insurance company is concerned it is their duty to call and you cant be rude to them. one can politely reply to the call and asked the caller not to call again but still its too irritating.

LOL. you're right.. here, those agents always recall us, i don't know how they manage their databases, but i think once they put your number in their list, they will call you again and again.. maybe some person keep it for exchange it with another..

Considering I dont have caller ID right now I have to answer the phone whenever it rings. If it is a telemarketer or wrong number Ijust hang up them. I dont have the time to mess arround with stupid things like that.

i imagined how their feeling if i was on their place, hehee
my cellphone is giving me more troubles
some calls appear as a 'private number' mode
yoou can't see the number of the call, and i often got confused whether to answer it or not

I don't answer unknown phone calls. I have my number register on "do not call list"
If you have your number register and they call you, you can report it and they may pay you up to 10K...:)

Yes, I do. Why not? Look at it this way: someone closed his eyes to avoid seeing a bad person who was expected to pass anytime. He was also expecting to see a good person pass. He was able to avoid the bad one quite alright, but he also missed the good person he had longed to see.

My friends and relatives' numbers are all in my cellphone. But when there is a strange call to me, and most of the time I'll pick it up. It's just not polite to hang it up. Maybe someone uses a new phone to call me, so I have to make sure I won't make a mistake. My experience is like yours, I often get annoying phone calls like insurance agent and so on.

We don't have caller ID so all of our calls are unknown! My cell phone has caller ID, but only my friends and family have my number, so it is extremely rare that I get a number I don't recognize.

for me answering a call from an unknown number is just spending your own time because you don't know that person. Another thing is i don't know that person so that when someone call me i refused to answer it. When it annoy me i will turn off the cellphone so that he/she will not call me again.

Sometimes! Depend on my mood..lol..but here's the fact, a lot of people I know including me when we sign up with company choose this option : unlisted phone number and block your number when you make out going call. So...it's kind of hard to tell. Easier just let it go to the answering machine. Telemarketer usually hang up after the it goes to the machine. If it's a friend usually they will leave message
