My husband and I was engaged for 11 months before getting married and the only reason it was that long was because my mum asked us to have a long engagement as I was 18 and my husband was 19. 11 months isn't really that long, but back then it felt like it was. We have now been married for 13 years.

I think you should really know someone, for years, before getting married. Get to know all there little habits and oddities.
Only when you've lived with someone for awhile, can you decide wether or not you can live with them for the rest of your life.

It's different for different people. It depends on the couple, and it depends on the situation. My Sweetie and I don't want a big wedding so we really don't need that much time to plan. We are not sure how long we want to wait, it all depends on life, I guess.

If you married it should be for long term.
I don't like the idea of people getting married for the fun of it instead of sticking to dating. Makes the "thought" of marriage seems a gimmick.
^ Those who get married and then regret it.

It doesnt matter how short or long your engagement is. As long as you take time in every chances you have to really know each other. You need to throw lots of questions you can possibly think regardless of what that is. The important thing there is, you need more information on the person whether you can adjust, live and stick to that person forever. Any marriages is no farther to be perfect so at most times it is really difficult to accept each others differences. When you think you already know your man/woman better and you already asked whatever important thing there is for you to ask, its the right time to get married. Lastly, marriage is a lifetime commitment. You can always discover new things with each other, its up to you to accept it or live with it and be happy.
