Do generic and branded medicines have the same content and works effectively the same? So why do we still buy the branded names?

Do they really have the same content? I always wonder. One time I had to take antibiotics, and I bought the generic ones. I thought it didn't work as good as the branded ones I bought and tried before. I don't know if it's just in the mind. But since then I never bought anything generic.

What I only noticed is that they have the same content just like the colds tablet. I bought 1 generic and 1 branded and both contain three ingredients like chlorphenamine maleate, phenylpropanolamine and paracetamol.

I know the pharmacist will do that if you have insurance because they figure they get more money with the name brand and the insurance will pay for it, but when I buy medicines that are not over the counter I buy generic because it is cheaper and works the same way.

Hey Jeanbug I am on several medications because I had a heart attack last month and all of them are the generic kind which is really good because I would hate to think what it would cost me if they weren't!

That can be practical and very good advice. Thanks!

Actually here where I live, the pharmacists will usually give you the generic brand more than the expensive brand. I would assume that would mean that the generic brand is just as good as the expensive stuff.

I see, it's fine that the pharmacist himself have advised that and it works well. Thanks!
