Why do people tell everyone say "drop party" "Dropping rune items" and then they just drop capes and everything noobish... what do they gain by doing that?

they gain humor from seeing people dissapointed that they got a cape or junk instead of what they were expecting like a rune helm or scimitar or kite...

some people do drop parties just because they are bored, others do them as events for their clan, i do a drop party every now and then for my forum (i mod a runescape-related forum).
yes, sometimes the stuff that can be dropped is rubbish like capes and such, but that is just to make the drop party look a little fuller.
personally i prefer to do competitions on forum and give direct prizes though, that way i know that someone i don't know isn't getting stuff lol (only the clan can actually enter the competition on forum).
