Are there still honest people in the world?

I know you can relate with me in this aspect because we are surrounded by lots of liars and cheaters in the Phils. This is of course led by our country's top leaders. This is our sad situation. In lots of places, you'll be warned to watch out for pickpockets or to watch your belongings at all times. This is precisely the reason why I'm asking if there are still a lot of honest people because I am seeing a lot of dishonesty around me. Asking more money than you really need from your mother because you want to pocket the rest is not a valid reason. I am always honest in asking from my mom and give her back the change. As a result, she gives me more than I ask of her or even if I don't ask, she just offers. This is because she knows she can trust me and that she knows that the money wont go to waste. I was looking for years to find people ..Honest people to talk about this subject. i don't remember ever coming into any place that talks about honesty! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS WONDERFUL OPPERTUNITY! let me say this. Honesty and Truthfull people are the most Admired people in the world in my family and in my upbringing. now as long as people don't notice, value, and admire it and look up at these people's values the world will less and less look up on these people that have these high values! thats one of the only ways how to get it in to the young generation. today who is admired...A Rock Star...A Movie Star...He can be a Rotten guy inside out but he is a Rock star or a poletition! think about what i am saying. I am with you Still I believe the number of honest and good hearted peoples are more in numbers than the bad guys but the honest guys are not in the limelight or they do not want it as they are good they just do their duty and go away

I'm glad to know that. You are right. One who is honest to himself is honest to others. In fact, the opposite is also true: one who is honest to others, is honest to himself. If you are true to others then you will have a clear conscience and you are true to yourself as well. If you cheat other people the very first person you are fooling is yourself. That's nice. I absolutely agree with you that the worst part of a lie is not to regret it and the saddest part of it is that a lot of people have no regrets of lying. Lying & cheating repeatedly makes a habitual liar without any guilts. Yes, there are situations when we really have to lie to protect something important but as much as possible we really have to be totally honest because in the end we'll just be fooling ourselves if we aren't. Thanks for this reassurance. It is difficult to find them perhaps because they are fading away or they simply like to hide their good deeds. I think we should highlight the honest acts of people because these are admirable deeds in this dishonesty-invaded world of ours. Thanks for speaking out. We should fight more for our values.

Its good that you recognize this thing. you cannot just sit back and look at people while they are being ridiculed for telling the truth. We should do our part by standing up for the truth and for people who are telling the truth. If all of us do this, we can probably turn the situation around and bring back the world to times when dishonest people where looked down in the society. You are absolutely right. Dishonesty ruins the life of a lot of people. Not only of others but especially of the dishonest people. I'm glad I found somebody who thinks the same way. I am sad with what happened to you but I salute you for keeping a positive attitude on this. I know that people like to take advantage of you when you're honest. Be cautious in dealing with others. Don't give as much information as you ought to. We dont necessarily have to lie to protect ourselves from abusers, we can just keep our distance from them. I see a lot of good people around but even these so called "good people" do not hesitate to lie sometimes. Its like honesty has no value for them anymore. I have several honest true friends but what I'm wary about are the new people I meet around or in the net. You are right, a true and honest friend is a treasure. Thanks for your response.

I believe that there are no gray areas between honesty and dishonesty. You are either honest or dishonest. Whether it is a crime or not, is not the issue. A dishonest act will always be a dishonest act. You can always act like a someone smart before your colleagues but who are you fooling? Being dishonest is fooling yourself first and foremost. We know what we are doing but we just want to hide our wrongdoings in different names to justify our actions. We have to learn to be honest to ourselves first then being honest to others will come easier.

Yes, white lies are still lies and it sends signals to people that you aren't totally honest. However, I think that white lies can be avoided if you resolve to. It is important to avoid telling white lies because eventually you wont be telling white lies only but all kinds. If lying can become a habit if you do it repeatedly, I believe that telling the truth can also become a habit if you do it repeatedly. If you fail the first time, that's ok just resolve to do better next time. I would rather have a friend that's reputed to a bad person than a dishonest person who gives everybody the impression that he is honest. yes, it is better to be real than faking things. Yes, i see more bad than good. As Ive responded to others, i think its because most people discuss the dishonesties of other people more than their honesties. Teaching your son honesty is the best move you can do to ensure the perpetuation of honesty in this world. I get so disappointed seeing parents who model lies to their kids.
