Hi! I am curious and will like to know which country you are and what you think is the percentage (%) gap between the rich and the poor. I am a Nigeria and the rich ones happens to have almost everything. I think the difference between the rich and the poor is 15 and 75%. What makes me feel bad at times is my in ability to reduce the gap, but am still working together with my group (Youth Advancement Initiative) om contributing to the improvement and development.

I don't know what the gap is in my country but I know it will never be evened out simply because it is is the best interest of the rich people to keep that gap pretty wide and as the rich people have the Governments working in their best interest what hope has the poorer people got...and this is in every country.

the poor gets poorer for a lot of reasons. Some are stuck in their predicament because of their attitude and traditions while others do not do anything to improve their lives. Still others become poorer despite their efforts to earn decent living because of karma. We all have our respective roles to play in this world and in this lifetime. We have our own corners/places in this planet. sometimes i think the gap between the rich and the poor is becoming too wide because that's how it should be. i know a lot of people will not agree with me. but hey come to think of it, majority of the people just don't do anything to bridge the gap, though they would disagree with me if i say that that's how it should be.

I don't know the percentage gap and it really does not matter. The difference between rich and poor is attitude and ideas. Many rich people were once poor people. Most are not born with riches. If you can gain the mindset of the rich, you can help yourself become richer. That not only means monetarily, but in all areas of your life. For it is no good to be rich with money and not be healthy, or have great relationships or no sense of self.
Many poor people will complain and play the role of being a victim. Rich people take full responsibility for their lives and work to make positive changes for themselves and others. They give a service and receive payment in return. Those that are rich and take advantage of others will lose those riches.
It is good that you are taking part in a program to improve your country. The key for you is to never give up going after whatever it is in life you want. Do not let anything or anyone tell you that you cannot do what you want to do. As long as your intentions are good in nature, you can be successful if you never quit. Many of the rich are rich because they never gave up their dreams. If you despise or hate the rich, that attitude will keep you from finding your own treasures.
Perhaps conditions are not as you would like in your country. That is no reason to give up. Those who persist in getting what they want will be the leaders of tomorrow. I wish you well in your quest to improve your country.

I totally agree with your point of view. Just one more thing to add, it's the resources. Another reason why there is gap and getting further apart is poor getting less and less resource, and rich have all kind of advantage to get more resources.

i am from Nigeria also, it true that the Gap between the Rich and the Poor is Long like you said, but the only reason behind these Gap is that most of the Rich ones get their richness by stealing, from the Government, you can see that all of the rich man today are politicans. so,they have the opportunity to steal money whenever they need it.

I am very sorry to state that I don't have the percentage stat of rich and poor in India. I think it is 60-40 where sixty is the poor. But this 40 rich includes some of the elite rich of the world. The rich here are so rich that they can have any thing. But the poor are in a very very low condition. I very much hope that our country will correct these things and attain social equalities in the future.

Well I'm living in America (essentially all my life), but I spent the first 5/6 years of my life in Vietnam. Anywho, as there will be many relplies regarding America, I'm going to compare those two social classes from Vietnam. In Vietnam, the dividing line between these two class are as clear as daylight. You're either a really rich person or a really poor person. There aren't many "middle" class people.
The rich Vietnamese citizens will enjoy the modernity (hope I spelled that right) of life since they have more money to spend, while the poor Vietnamese citizens will not even know what a DVD player is. The dividing line is very clear and although I don't know the exact percentage, I do know that the poor population is the majority group.
From my experience, regardless of what social class these Vietnamese people are from, both group are ignorant about the American life, and they think that living in America means being automatically filthy rich (they get this idea mainly from outside Vietnamese-American). In fact all my family members in Vietnam has this misconception as well as their friends, and also the locals.
Wait 'till I tell them that I'm typing on myLot in order to earn PENNIES a day!

I am from China and there is a big distance between rich and poor people. The rich people can have some privilege. They live quite well. Unfortunately the poors are so suffering. I've seen a lot and some are even children. I always feel sad to it. I hope that our society and government can care more about the poor people. To help them live better.
