You are watching a great movie. The people are finally together and in love, or just everything going along happily. And then BAM out of nowhere one of them dies. They try to wrap it up by showing the other, years later, having a child, like some sort of consolation prize. I get so depressed when I see this. I was just watching a really great film. It took these two people so long to get "it" right. I was so emotionally attached. It is weird for me to actually "feel" in a movie. SO you can imagine how awful I felt when one of them just up and died. I feel so bad, I am writing a discussion about it..lol. I found myself in this movie thinking at points do this or do that. It really was a spectacular film. The scenary, the actors, the story line. But I am feeling a little "let down" by the ending. So how about you? Do you hate the sad endings too? Or do you like them? Please do share. Tell me I am not the only "sap" out there!! LOL

Isn't that what they did for Titanic? And so many people actually went back to the cinema to catch repeated runs of the movie. I prefer happy endings. The world is bleak enough a place.

Awww, monkey. So you are a sappy eh, LOL. You know, romance and love story are not my forte. I prefer mystery, action, suspense and light drama. I always like to see my heart pounding while almost gluing myself right in front of the TV. I really can't precisely say if I feel bad or not about such tragic ending. I might feel a little sad but will not cry over it. Sorry, monkey, I'm not a sappy bunny, LOL.

That's what makes a movie a blockbuster. Selling them like hotcake and kleenex tissue too. :P

This particular movie was more of a drama, but romance was involved too. i hardly ever cry, but I was quite upset at the ending in this movie. I really hate when producers do that !!

I hate it also, its so sad and feel like so lazy to leave the movie house when the ending of the movie is like that, that's why my husband and i always love to watch action movies most of the time, sometimes animated movies for our son, at least this kind of movie we dont feel any depression unlike movies with romance topic and in the end one of the character will die. I dont want a sad ending even in real life.

No one wants a sad ending in real life. I enjoy movies for the un-reality of it. I mean we all know no one can take a beating and keep fighting and win like Rocky. No cop is invincible like Bruce Willis or Steven Segal. Romance isn't always happy endings & fairy tales like First Kiss. But we enjoy these movies because they are not real. To make us feel good.

I embrace movies like that once in a while because everyone doesn't always live happily ever after. In real life it doesn't start off once upon a time and it doesn't end happily ever after so we need some movies that are a little more real and we can relate to more. Like American History X... or the Break Up. Or even American Beauty. The Life of David Gale. Some movies that show how life REALLY sometimes happens. I think it's healthy to embrace the movies like that instead of being sad.

I figured you were talking about city of angels :) I've actually never seen that movie because a friend of mine told me what happened so I never saw a point in actually watching the movie. It is true that you want to escape reality. Most movies are happy endings. I'm just saying once in a while it is nice to see a real life movie you can relate to a little. I'm a huge movie fan... so I embrace them all :)

I wasn't talking about City of Angels this time, a movie with a much similar ending though. I do know what you mean. And I do love all types of movies. I just hate feeling sad/depressed at the end of movies... :(

l also don't like sad endings or reality movies. I watch movies for entertainment and to be happy, not to see others' problems or sorrows. After the movies I want to leave the theater with a happy frame of mind and humming the songs in that movie, not with a heavy heart and a headache that I invariably get in sad movies.

Hey! that is the truth, I also get tired of watching all the disasters and deaths they keep showing in the news, they should balance it with good and pleasant things, I am sure lots of nice things also happen all round the World.

I love happy endings and I really don't like sad endings. But you know, there is one thing that is worse. Open endings. OMG I hate those. I was watching Law & Order once and it was the kind of case that could have gone either way and the way it ended, was like this: "We the jury find the defendant....". That was it and the show was over. I was so mad LOL.

I do know what you mean. I watched a horror movie once that had the strangest ending. You didn't know if the survivor got out, or was actually still in the cave dreaming she had gotten out. Those are the worst !!

I absolutely hate sad endings. I think it's unfair for the moviegoers who watch movies "to feel good" and be entertained to make them feel bad or sad when the movie ends. That's why personally, I just watch feel-good movies most of the time. Romantic or light movies, comedies, and do away with depressing stories or violence laden films that gives me a heavy burden on my chest. Back then, we always see happy endings, but more and more films are becoming diverse and based more on what happens in real life. Maybe they just want to send out a message that hey, this can happen or this has happened to you. But given that the story is fiction, I don't mind having happy endings all the time and feel happy even for a while.

I agree 100%,like I said before. If I want true life, I'll rent a documentary. If I want gloom and doom, I'll simply watch the news !!!

Most movies are like this now because most people don't want to see a good ending and this gives them the opportunity to have a part 2 movie. I know what you mean because to me is frustrating too.

Writers do it too. Like Nicholas Sparks I have read a lot of his books but no tthe new ones. Anyway I think it was message in a bottle. I threw the book across the room and I was so mad at him for doing that! If you didn't like their ended make your own up.

Yeah, i hate it too, but then again some movies have the worst ending ever by trying to have a happy ending where there is no climax at all (War of the Worlds). So you can't always win when watching movies.

Yes, I know. I was just so saddened at the end of the movie I was watching, I really hated thatthey ended it that way. Poor choice on the producers behalf I think.

well happy endings not always occur so the movie makers tend to create sad endings to make the viewer emotional. I also dont like sad ending cause i feel like crying but i then know that there are not always happy ending in real life too.

well movies are best when watched the way they are. everymovie cannot have happiness only, else the charm of sadistic movies also loses. if there were not to be sadness, you wouldnt have realized the flavour of happy movies as well ;)

welcome to Mylot.. I understand what you mean, but if I rent a horror movie, it is to see gore and guts. If I rent a comedy it is to laugh. If I rent a romance, I want romance. Not sadness.
