I thought I would share with you the link to a free site where you can download and install a registry cleaner, free of charge. http://www.ccleaner.com
With this tool you can not only clean the junk files out of your registry that tends to slow your computer down and cause crashes, but you can also erase all the history and other junk that can build up on your hard drive.
I have just scanned and cleaned my registry, and I am finding a difference already. All for free! When we go onto the internet we tend to collect stuff like activeX controls and file extensions and things that clog up our drives. To clean registry, go into the program click on the "Scan for Issues" button, followed by "Fix Selected Issues" When asked if you want to backup the registry, select "yes" - just in case something doesn't work properly afterwards, but I found everything was fine :-)
If you download and use it come back and tell me what you think.

I use CCleaner, but not to clean my registry. I only trust specialized products for that. The registry is not a playground, and deleting a single vital key can be even more dangerous than leaving hundreds of old, orphaned keys behind.
The only freeware registry cleaner I use is ToniArts EasyCleaner, which confines itself to definite and unambiguous errors. To keep my machines in top running order after an installation or uninstallation, I use Norton WinDoctor.

Hi, I read what you about the ToniArts Easy Cleaner. I am going to try it . I have been using CCleaner and Spybot -Search and Destroy and like them quite well. Right now something is eating my memory and programs are slow to respond, and web pages load slowly .I have checked for viruses and spyware. Nothing is working . I have run a program called Hi-Jack this . I am hoping this will help. I do have Norton - WinDoctor someplace . I do not like to keep the utilities on my hard drive because it consumes way too much memory.

I have used CCleaner for quite some time now. I do share your views about this wonderful programme. It does all the things you mentioned and it has improved a lot during these years with new features. It can also do a system restore. I use it from time to time when I notice that my computer is slowing down.

I'll second that!
I use this program every time I exit my browser. It's really helpful to get rid of junk. ;-)

Thank you derek for this thread as I was really looking for a free registry cleaner online but most of them aren't, you can only use them if you have to buy one of their products so I never get to clean my PC, reasons why it's slowing down these few days. Now I know where to go to since you have shared the link with us here, thanks once again. :-)

I hope you find this registry cleaner is useful for your computer, but do remember to back up your registry when using it, just in case something doesn't work properly you can then re-set your machine to what it was before. If you are using XP, you simply need to use system restore if there are problems.
