What are you thoughts on Polygamy?

I recently had a discussion with a friend about polygamy. He questioned whether men are really made to be with only one woman- maybe that is the answer to cheating husbands. I disagreed with him. Not that I am against polygamy, I just am not for it. I do not condem those who practice this form of life, but personally could never see myself as part of this kind of situation.

I do not have anything against polygamy. I can not imagine how somebody can devote enough time and commitment to every spouse. It is not easy having one spouse, more so having several. I don't think it would also discourage cheating. A cheater would always find an excuse to wander around. Cheating, in my opinion, is a result of the lack of respect for the other person in the relationship. It is not just to fulfill a physical or emotional need.

You bring up a very valid point about the lack of respect a person must have for another if they are willing to cheat on that person.
I was out in Philly a couple weekends ago with a girlfriend of mine and we were approached by 3 women who after we met them- we learned they were sister wives (polygamist) and they were out for a nice night on the town. One offered to buy me and my friend a drink and offered information about "thier" husband. That he is a successful banker and such and that the thrid women with them was actually a prospective 3rd sister wife. This really amazed me and had me thinking- so I thought I would see how my mylot family felt about it. Thanks for your response :)

I agree with you. It seems like it would be an easy copout. However there are people that believe in this way of life, and I don't judge them, but for me that would never work.
