Here are some medical uses' Garlic appears to have anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. The list is long when it comes to its uses as a remedy. This list includes wounds, ulcers, skin infections, flu, athlete's foot, some viruses, strep, worms, respiratory ailments, high blood pressure, blood thinning, cancer of the stomach, colic, colds, kidney problems, bladder problems, and ear aches, to name a few. It is believed to cure worms in both people and animals - try giving the dog a clove of garlic daily (but he's not gonna like it). For most internal problems, eating garlic raw is probably the most potent way to take it. However, due to the obvious lingering odors associated with this, a tincture can be made by soaking 1/4 pound of peeled and separated garlic cloves in 1/2 quart of brandy. Seal tightly and shake every day. Strain and bottle after two weeks of this, and take in drops - 25-30 a day, if desired. For cough, flu, and respiratory ailments, make a cough syrup out of garlic. Slice 1 pound of fresh garlic and pour one quart of boiling water over it. Let sit for 12 hours, then add sugar until you reach the consistency of a syrup. Add honey for better taste, if desired. For sore throat, make a garlic tea by steeping several cloves of garlic in half a cup of water overnight. Hold your nose and drink it. Externally, garlic is a known anti-bacterial and anti-infection agent. An interesting use for ear aches is to slice a garlic clove, heat briefly in a small amount of virgin olive oil, and let cool. Then use a drop of two in the affected ear (strain the mixture beforehand, of course). Make an Ointment out of garlic (use cloves instead of leaves, stems, or flowers as described in Ointments) for wounds, cuts, athlete's foot, or any other external skin irritation, fungus, or infection. Also, try a few drops of Oil on a toothache for pain relief. http://www.gardensablaze.com/HerbGarlicMed.htm

Well first off you don't have to use it all up right away. What we like to do is peel and chop garlic up. Pour some olive oil over it, enough to make sure that the garlic is fully covered up. Place it in to a storage container and freeze. Oil doesn't freeze so when you need some fresh gatlic for a recipe all you will have to do is pull out what you will need. Here is a site that gives you some more ideas on how to store garlic. http://www.patthegarliclady.com/storinggarlic.html

You can send some of it over here. I'd be more than happy to help you get rid of it.lol. We use alot of garlic in this house and we add it to many things. The first thing that came to mind was using some of it to make garlic bread. I just don't know how to make it with fresh garlic and the garlic expert is out in the other room working on one of his projects and I don't want to disturb him.lol.

Wow, I wish we had that much garlic. That would be a gormet paradise! Ususally we'd peel, then chop garlic into tiny pieces and then fry these garlic pieces until they are golden brown. That's when we'd take them out and wait for it to cool. When it's cooled, they will smell fabulous and taste really good and will also be crunchy. These can be stored in a jar and kept aside for use when we need to add a topping to fried rice or noodle soup. Garlic adds a really nice flavour. Fresh garlic can also be chopped into pieces and sprinkled on top steamed fish or prawns. It adds a really nice flavour too.

Cut off the top third of the head of garlic, put it in a roasting pan or a garlic roaster with a little drizzle of olive oil and a little rosemary. Cover and roast it at 275 for about 40 minutes. Then use the garlic in mashed potatoes. It's SO good. I use 3 or 4 cloves to make enough for 3 people. You can also use the roasted garlic to make garlic bread. It spreads like butter.

I ahve always wanted to grow garlic. You could pickle it to preserve it for later use. I have seen pickled garlic in the stores and also have used it in a pinch. I keep a jar in the fridge.

You are so lucky. I love garlic! How about some yummy Garlic Soup? I've had this cold and really like it cold too. 1 can College Inn Chicken Soup or 2 c. homemade chicken broth 4 med. potatoes, cut in quarters 1 whole elephant garlic (I just use the standard garlic they have at the grocery store) 1/4 c. chopped basil 1/4 c. good olive oil Cover potatoes with water and bring to boil. Cook until fork tender with whole elephant garlic that has been cleaned and chopped. When potatoes and garlic are fork tender transfer water, potatoes and garlic to blender. Add chicken broth and blend all until smooth. Transfer all to pan and heat to boil. Put into individual soup bowls. Top with a swirl of olive oil and sprinkle with basil.

I know an excellent way of using them up. Send any extras to me. :-D I planted alot of garlic but none came up for some odd reason. Maybe I planted them this past spring instead of fall? They were already sprouting when I planted them so don't know why they didn't come up. We love garlic in just about anything so I tend to buy huge jars of minced garlic so I have plenty if I run out of fresh garlic.
