I recently was of effexor for depression. I got pregnant and had to come off the drug ASAP. The withdrawal symptoms were beyond what any words can describe and I just wanted to know who out there has been on effexor and has been able to come off it? What symptoms did you go through and would you consider getting back on the drug again?

About a month ago i didn't get my refills so i figured i would quit anti depressants then. After two weeks i needed and wanted to get back on my anti depressants. I had all the bad symtoms posted here and i would talk all the time about nothing, couldn't concentrate and i was easily irritated. My dosage is 300mg effexor and 300 wellbutrin. Take care Eashoor.

I'm currently on Effexor, been on it for almost 5 years. Luckily, I started taking it after I had my 2 children and didn't plan on having any more. I never went through a full withdrawal, but there has been a couple of times when I had to stretch out the medication because I didn't have the money for my refill. Just missing one dose, I would start to feel the effects of withdrawal. I would feel kind of loopy, and my body would feel like it was floating. I would start to get a headache and my stomach would feel a bit queasy. My body would start to feel weird, it's hard to describe. I would start to get little tiny brain zaps. Not a pleasant feeling.

Sorry for my spelling mistakes. Just wanted to add that I was on a 225 mg dose which is a large one. All comments on experiences with anti depressants are wellcome. Thank you

I was on Effexor for OCD a few years ago. I was able to come off of it over the course of several weeks. I do not advise anyone to come off of any prescription that you take on a regular basis without doing it gradually. When you come off of it quickly your brain and body go into shock. Thus you experience withdrawl symptoms. Symptoms include headache, nausia, chills, body aches, flu like symptoms, irritability, nevousness, and moodiness. Your doctor should have explained all of this to you, and it is bothersome that even though you are now pregnant your doctor didn't have you taper off. Sometimes the small risk to the fetus is less of a concern versus all the stress the fetus will go through while you are going through withdrawl. Good luck and cograts you will be just fine!!!
