Cats fall from hights, Did Yours?

Two nights ago my husband and I came to the nightmare realization that our cat has fallen off our 3rd level balcony. We spent all night up to 3 am in the morning looking for him. We saw him and called his name but he ran away from us? The search continued the next day and we put up lost cat signs all over the appartment building. Another night went by with nothing. Then Yesterday June 23rd at 8 am we got a knock on our door. This nice lady had found him on her balcony at the lower level appartments and brought him to us. He was still in shock and had some minor soft tissue injury according to the Vet. Since this happened I have been hearing Horror stories of cats falling from 9 story buidlings and surviving. whats Yours?
