Wow, what a title to that one.
You know, I see it all of the time. Business are becoming more and more corrupt, especially in the treatment of their employees. Too many ultimatums are being given in situations that make absolutely no sense.
An example:
At my work, all of the department managers were given a choice: Either they work two weeks at one of the new stores that just opened or employees in their departments would be terminated. The reason for this? A bridge that connects us to West Virginia is a month past being completed and is killing the store's sales. They are trying to relieve payroll by sending the department managers an hour down the road so that they can be paid out of that store's payroll. They put many jobs in the hands of these department managers. Some of them having to drive an hour and a half each way just to save the jobs of other employees.
Another example:
A pharmacist in a local pharmacy is popping pills. The employees report him, but nothing is done about it. Each and every single one of them spoke to the higher ups regarding mistakes he has made that could've killed people and so on. Well, now he is in the hospital on a ventilator due to a drug overdose.
It just seems that as time progresses, these things are getting worse. Yes, there are laws preventing some of the things that are done in the workplace, but it just seems that big corporations, especially, tend to find ways around it.
Many at my work asked the question, "Can they do that?" about the first example I wrote about and they were all given the same answer..."yes, they can." Many attributed that to a type of blackmail, which I can definitely see that. It was more like a, "you'd better do this or we'll start chopping heads." So yeah, that is sort of like a type of blackmail. Had these managers said "no" about going, then they would have to deal with the guilt of it being their fault people lost their jobs.
So, after my long-winded rant, but not long enough rant about companies and their unfair and immoral tactics, do you have an example or an opinion? I'd love to hear them.

That is what companies like Wal-Mart are all about.
Wal-Mart also uses this tactic with their suppliers. They go to them and say we need this for $8.37 cheaper per unit or we will not carry any of your products.
This leads to a decline in quality. Wal-Marts products are inferior because of this.
Soon they will be gone and someone else will take their place. It has happened to many during my life and I am sure the cycle will continue with them.

Well, my store used to not be like all of the others, but apparently Wal-mart corporate caught onto that fact and sent us a district manager that manages to make our lives a little bit harder. We used to always talk about how our store was not like the rest as far as foul treatment of employees, etc. Well, it's getting there slowly but surely. It's a sad sad thing because I was so proud to work for my store because many customers would bypass the others to shop where the employees were happy.
