Why start a 'baited' discussion?

You know I really get the idea of a controversial question to start a discussion, but why do some people have to start one that is simply over the top 'bait' trying to elicit intensely negative responses? I mean you get to intentionally call out folks who either you disagree with, or in some cases actually do agree with, but don't say so you in your post!
I mean seriously, do they need MyLot cash that badly?
Were they beaten as children?
Do they have a persecution complex that needs to be fed on a regular basis?
Are they feeling neglected when they don't make posts of this nature? Or neglected in other parts of their life?
Do you feel a sense of superiority when people actually take the bait?
