What do you buy at the farmer's market?

For those of you who are lucky enough to have a farmer's market nearby, what do you like to buy there?
I finally made it over to the farmer's market in Ballard (which is fairly near to where we live), and I bought apples, sourdough bread, and tomatoes. The girl who sold me the apples suggested getting some sharp cheddar to go with them, so I will be looking for that at the grocery store later. I think that the tomatoes are going to be super delicious in a salad, and they looked so much better than the ones I usually see at the grocery store.

I love farmer's markets, though I have to admit that sometimes the ones around here can be a bit pricey. Much of the produce is organic so I know that costs more. last time I went to a market I got argula (it's a bitter salad green), and some homemade pickles (I LOVE pickles). There were also some good looking jams, but I have so much jam already I could not justify buying any more.
Apples and cheedar is really good. I also love sour dough bread. Fresh summer tomatoes are such a different thing than supermarket tomatoes. I really like making tomato salad with basil in the summer. Sounds like you got a good haul!

Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with my haul! Most of the stuff I got was organic, and I paid just a little over $10 for the bunch of it. A little more that I would pay at the supermarket, but it's so much tastier! I love having apples that haven't been coated in wax! :)

Wow...that's still a pretty good price. Fresh apples are the BEST!

We have a Farmers Market here once a month, and we also have a huge farm shop not far way from here. My partner and I much prefer fresh produce where possible although sometimes the prices can be more expensive. You can't beat fresh fruit and vegetables though and I love the taste of fresh sweetcorn with butter.

I love goin to the farmers markets!! Usually I like to buy things like fruit, veggies, jellys/jams sometimes I'll get cheese or breads etc..It all depends on which market I go to...the bigger ones which have the larger selections are a good hour away from us so we only go very very seldomly..

I rarely have the chance to buy from the farmer's market as we don't really have these here in my country. So I only get to do so during the time when we travel.
If we do get to see a farmer's market, then we'd most likely purchase fresh berries. Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, all types of berries. Usually the ones that are sent to the local supermarket aren't as fresh as berries don't keep well so it's wonderful to be able to get them from the farmer's market direct.

I tend to ususally just stick to buying my fruits and vegetables at that farmer's market. The one in my town also has crafts and food vendors available- but I always just go for the fresh corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, and peppers.

Today, I brought a small block of feta cheese and a tiny bag of salad. I also brought these beautiful, multicolored eggs. I didn't know that eggs came in colors other than brown or white. The women who sold them to me was a farmer who said that different colors were because they had lots of different chicken breeds. Even better, I found out today that you can use food stamps and the double your money if you buy from the market.

We have a couple that run during the week and one big on on Saturday. They have the best prices on corn, strawberries and cucumbers. The watermelons are still a little expensive but I am willing to pay a little more for them because of the great taste and that they are locally grown. Last year they had the most amazing sweet peas, I mean my mouth was watering when I tasted them. They were so good you could eat them without even cooking them but it did take a lot of time to get them out of the pods.
As far as apples go, they won't have them for another month or so ... if you want to try something different, sprinkle a little brown sugar on them and let the sugar break down from the juice. It only takes a couple minutes but my lord, the taste of the apple juice and the brown sugar is almost sinful!

Oh I love the farmer's market. Unfortunately in our area, family farms are slowly dying & there just aren't many offerings at the local farmer's market. Our town's usually has just two farms represented. I often travel to a FM a couple towns away from home that usually has 4 farms present. Right now summer squash, tomatoes & some fresh herbs seem to be the big crops. As the summer progresses though, there will be fresh corn, beans, peppers, winter squashes and all sorts of fresh goodies :).

I just went to the farmers market yesterday and i bought lots of vegetables such as collard green, spinach, asparagus, red onionfruits ,vine rippen tomato, carrots, chinese pea, broccoli and cherry .I like farmers market because their vegetables are normaly home grown and a lot fresher then the store.
The vegggies that i bought from farmers market usually will last longer then store.

We have a small farmers market in our town. I love to go just to see what they have. I like to buy fresh berries, tomatoes, corn on the cob. I really like the blueberries and strawberries that I get. The rest of my summer fare, I get out of my sisters garden now that I am renting a home and can't plant a garden! She always has green beans, tomatoes, zucchini, squash, and peas, but I don't like peas.
