Stress can sometimes makes people fat, if uncontrolled. Everytime I'm stressed or angry the first thing that pops into my mind is food. And I will eat until I feel better. I'll regret the weight gain later but it was only after gaining 8kg that I felt really bad. My friend helped me with my diet. We exercised together daily and I've lost 3kg in nine days! This is the first time I've felt really good - no stress, no anger. But the best thing is if I feel bad now, I will exercise or go shopping with my friend instead.

Oh I am the same way - stress = eat, eat = gain weight, gain weight = more stress. A visious cycle :( What a blessing that you have a friend to help you. I know I do feel much better and handle stress better when I am exercising, eating right, and limiting my 'treats'.

Zandi i think it is wonderful your new way of life, and the fact that losing that weight makes you feel satisfied and happy. I know that i also have a problem with food all of my life. Food became the habit and alote of time the solution to all things. I know that i am a very calm person this days, but still a habit is a hard thing to overcome. There are alote of reaons for choosing food to be our reliever. I am glad that you made up your mind, and little by little changing your way of life.

Yep, weight has always been my problem eversince I was in my teenage years. I am the only one out amongst my siblings who is not a beanpole. A bit of change will be good for me to welcome my aging years. At least I am not a total right off and age gracefully if not elegantly.

I am also facing that gruelling task of losing the weight I gained during a particularly stressfull time. In fact, I went from being 60kg, to my current weight of 79kg. Quite a gain! lol My issues are the same as yours...I will be doing well, but then something happens to trigger the old comfort eating thing. I hate it. Even while I'm eating, I know it's bad. But! Motivation is here, and I really am determined to lose the weight. One thing about your stress? The running itself is such a great way to relieve stress. Cardiovascular workouts stimulate the rease of endorphins in our body, which relieves stress and depression. Swimming is another great stress reliever. Running is more effective for fat burning, where swimming helps to tone the body all over. Keep up the good work...3kg is great! You are almost halfway!! :)

Being slim and fit is every women's dream. But to achieve it for the rest of our life is not an easy feat. we have to be constantly active and lead a stress free life to enjoy the beauty of this world.

That is a good idea to go walk when you are mad or to go shopping. It also helps to keep you in shape walking does.

I really feel happy for you that you now choose to go exercise or shopping when you feel low. Your friend is indeed a friend to accompany you for exercise. Many people do not like exercise, not to say, accompany one for exercise. May I know what exercise you do, and can it be done any time? I do agree with you that stress can really make people lose control and eat non-stop. I too eat when stressed with boredom. The bad thing is that I snack junk at night to fight boredom, and I find it inconvenient to exercise late at night.

In fact releasing a bad mood can have many options. Besides eating, you can do some sports. I found that doing some sports can cheer you up. It's a very effective way for me. Or you can talk to your close friends or family. Talking may not solve any problems, but it'll be helpful for the mental pressure.

I have never been an emotional eater, but I definetly understand it, and know alot of people who do. My problem with over eating is eating out..portion sizes are so large and since I'm treating myself or being treated to a meal I tend to eat more then I normally would at home. Stress hormones can also make people fat without extra intake of food..if you notice that you haven't changed your eating habits but you are putting on weight anyway you may be stressed out...stress slows the metabolism and causes weight gain. You are on the right track...changing your attitude about how to deal with stress. Keep up the good work!

I understand where you are coming from. For me, mild stress causes me to over eat as well and this is where I usually find myself. But more severe stress causes me to loose my appetite. I also over eat out of boredom. So I too have some weight I need to loose. Having some one to join you in this is great, because you can encourage each other. Even when you are by yourself, you may thing of what your friend would say or think about you eating something or skipping your exercise, so you are still encouraged. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

In a period that I was overstressed, I toke 10 kg because I used only to eat bad foods, and I was always sad and frustated. In the summer next to this period, I didn't eat because I didn't want to gain more kilos - also the stress was present, I was in a bad situation too.. I lose 20 kilos in two months. Actually I'm well and not very stressed, however in my opinion there are different kind of persons that if overstressed lose or gain kilos!

Yes, same with me. Steess leads to over eating on my part too. Depression causes me to eat a lot as well. For many people, stress & depression do the opposite. Then the weight gain causes more stress. Somehow I break the cycle at times. I go to Weight Watchers, & this helps me break the cycle sometimes.
