Cordless mice

I have had a very bad weekend, constantly running my virus scanner because my cordless mouse has been going crazy, and my Other Half has let me. NOW he tells me that if I put a book on my desk the signal from the little blinking oval contral thingie doesn't reach the mouse . . .
I haven't killed him because I can't run fast enough to catch him.
If you are new to cordless mice this little piece of knowledge might just save your sanity. If the mouse goes beserk, check that the signal from the mouse to the control is not impeded, in the same way as you have to be able to point a remote at the right area to make it work!

Thanks for the tip.
I have noticed that since I have my cordless mouse my screen saver doesn't work.
Has that been a problem for you also?

No I have not had this problem yet, but I do not have wonderful luck, so I suppose that may happen in the future!
DanaMark up above in this discussion seems to know a lot about these horrid mice and it might help you if you send him a mylot message and ask if he can help you with that.
Good luck :-)

I will interrupt here for a suggestion about the screensaver not working with a cordless mouse. The first step is to check to be sure the screensaver is still turned on. Sometimes mine gets turned off for some reason. Then I have to turn it back on. If you're not sure how to check that, let me know and I'll step you through it.

I have cordless mice on my desktop and laptop. I don't have a problem with either one of them. I like the freedom of being able to work without having to worry about the cords. I'm not sure if a book will block the signal. Just be sure the receiver is not too far from the mouse. My instructions also said I shouldn't have it too close to the monitor. However, mine is right beside my monitor and it has caused no problems. I hope your sanity returns soon. lol

What is sanity? I have only a passing relationship with this concept and it usually rushes out the door in the morning before I can catch it, and hides whilst I am dealing with assorted neighbours and friends who turn up at feeding time, only returning when I am about to go to sleep :-)
Seriously I am pleased your mouse has caused you no problems because mine has very nearly gone into the bin this weekend, and still has not lost the chance lol.
I shall take notice of your comments and try keeping the control thingie at different points on the desk until I find an optimum place, so thank you so much for that.

Battery changes don't work, but the control thingie is a factor. Sometimes I have to have the mouse very close and other times not. If the thing leaps about all over the place like a demented dachshund I move it further away, if it goes on strike I move it closer, but I have to change the position quite often as it is plainly psychotic!
Your advice is very good though and I have made sure my partner has checked everything over in accordance with that advice.
I am having a more productive time at the moment as the thing is behaving.
Thank you again for really useful information.

My "control thingie" on my laptop is a USB plugin, so it is within 1 foot of my mouse. On my desktop I have it about 2 feet away. If yours isn't that close, you might try moving it a little closer.
Have you tried changing batteries yet? Sometimes the batteries a device comes with are pretty weak and can lose power quickly. I think my first battery change came pretty soon after I got it.
Some cordless mice work right out of the box, and some come with extra software which needs to be installed to work the best. Or there might be a software upgrade online that you could download. Other than that, I don't know what to suggest. Good luck with your "control thingie."

I'm sorry sweetie, that mouse have been so mischievous after the problems when you first had it nd it went too fast aswell.
I wouldn't have known how to sort this out either, I have a little square and 2 buttons on Lucy Laptop and haven't used a mouse since I worked in an office years ago, I'm sure if I had a cordless on it'd run away and eat it's way through my food cupboard.

Well currently it is still acting up and I have had to move the thing four times today to get optimum speed, but hey, at least it is working. Also there is no cord so the birdies can now chew through it, so that is also a very important plus, as you know.

If I find out that the reason this mouse is psychotic is because Tinker is here playing aerobics on it I shall not be very happy so if I were her I would tootle off home now!

Oh they eat up batteries too? Great! Do you know how to stop the wretched mice going crazy? I have had a terrible weekend with this one. The reason we need the cordless set is that when I am ill I can lie down and still do things like Mylot, but when we have the leads it makes it difficult to lie down to work.

Yup, I am permanently ill and often have to work lying down, but not in the way you imagine, although you have given me a very good laugh there my friend. Maybe I should have a red light in my office lololol.
I agree that this mouse is psychotic and that if all cordless mice are the same they are very well avoided!
