When did you switch your children to toddler beds?

My daughter is 20 months old and I'm starting to wonder if she is ready for a toddler bed. Here lately she has not been wanting to sleep in her crib at all. It seems like she will sleep anywhere but her crib. She will sleep in our bed, the couch and even on the floor. But when I try to put her in her crib she flips out. Even if she is already asleep she will wake up as soon as I lay her down in her crib. I'm wondering if I set up a toddler bed if she would sleep in it. But I don't want to rush out and buy one just for her to not want anything to do with it.
So when did you all switch your children to toddler beds? How did you know they were ready?

She may not be ready yet. I personally think it's best to wait until they climb out on their own, because with a toddler bed comes many other issues, such as now they are free out of the crib and in the middle of the night they could get up. If they aren't particualarily obediant, (and most aren't at 20 months) it could be a lot more of a struggle than you need. My son, did go to a toddler bed at around then, but he was quite compliant, and NEVER even tried to get out of bed w/out permission, he knew it wasn't allowed. Your daughter is most likely just testing her limits.. She's prob. just waiting to see what you do. I would just ignore her, as long as she's not hurting anyone or herself, let her fling herself around in there.. it will just make her more tired!

I'm not really worried about what would happen if she got up in the middle of the night. I really think she might get up and try to play for a minute and the go back to sleep. I'm going to try to cry it out method for a few nights. It's going to be harder on me then it will be for her lol.

Hi my daughter was around 2 1/2. She did not want to give up her crib. She always wanted to think she was a big girl so I worked with that. I got her to pick out special big girl bedding and made it fun and exciting. The first few days only her animals slept in the bed. After that she hopped in and has not had a problem since. good luck and be patient it will happen.

I have three children and when they started doing that is when I bought them a toddler bed. I think that when they are olden enough to start climbing out of it then they are ready for a toddler bed.
