Sir Trevor McDonald a RACIST!?

Would a white person get away with calling someone a "fat black ba****d" on national television and escape with their integrity in tact? On his new, highly scripted television programme last night Sir Trevor McDonald, a most respected member of the media called Bernard Manning a "fat white ba*****d" and I for one think that this is disgusting. We know that the world is now P.C. mad and that you cannot say boo to a goose, and that all reacism is very wrong, but why should he be able to get away with it even if he is reading from a script?

you need to look at the context in which it was said - it was in discussion of the wy Bernard Manning would speak about people then it is not offensive. It is intended to make people think about how they refer to others

I think that if it was said in any sort of context then it was wrong. If you take the example of Emily in the Big Brother house, she said the "N" word and did not mean that offensivly, was saying it in a jokey manner, look at the furore that caused! Racism is racism, which ever way you view it.

But he was not "calling" Bernard this name; it is a current affairs programme that examines the issues of the day. The idea was to examine attitudes to racism.
