Do you boil the water first? or cook until it boils?

Whenever I cook things on the stove, noodles or the like, I always put the noodles in the pot and turn it on high, that way when the water boils...shazam! the noodles are pretty much done.
I know cooking instructions always say "Place in boiling water" but I've found that you get the job done a little bit faster if you don't wait for the water to boil and THEN cook the noodles.
So do you bring to a boil and then add noodles?
Or add the noodles then bring to a boil?

I do the same thing. I'm kinda an impatient cook and it always seems to take water forever to boil on my stove. The stove can be on screaming hot and it still takes forever and a day to boil. I wish I had a fancy kitchen like from Food Network or something. Their water always boils fast.

i boil it first-the noodles seem to cook a lot faster when i do.sometimes with things like rice i'll put it in before it boils, but heating it first seems better.

in essence...cooking things while it's coming to a boil is basically the same as cooking something in the microwave. With those things like easy mac and stuff you're basically doing the same thing.. putting the noodles in before it's to a boil and bringing it to a boil.

I do both actually. It just depends on what I'm doing at the time.
I like boiling the water though first because I think the noodles cook better when the water is already boiling. And I think the water actually boils faster too with out the noodles in there.
But like I said. I do it both ways. As long as they get cooked - I'm good LOL.

I'm just so impatient! It feels like it takes forever for the water to start boiling, plus my stove makes everything boil over like ridiculous even if there's only a little water in there, it gets really hot... the entire stove does! so I like to get my food cooked and done as soon as possible!

I boil the water first- Just like the package says- : ) also the water boils faster with nothing in it- an cover it up- so I would imagine the cooking time would be less than if you put the noodles in first.
But hey whatever works for us right.

i always boil the water first before putting the noodles, if you say it worked faster puting the noodles in and then boil it. i have to try it then!!

I've always waited for the water to boil. On a few occasions I have put the noodles in right before it boils, but never before turning the heat on.
The only negative side I can think of to your approach is that boiling water gets rid of the impurities in the water. It 'sterilizes it'. So putting your noodles in first, you will essentially absorb those impurities. that's just one side of it.

I've never heard of putting the noodles in until the water boils. YOu say it works? I will try it next time~ thanks for the tip.

I don't cook all things like that but last night I had hot dogs and macaroni and cheese. Both things I put in the water and then boil. It definitely does work.. you usually still need to leave a boil for a little while longer, but at least it saves a few minutes time I think.

Hey. In our house we do a bit of both, boiling the water first as well as while its cooking, I suppose it depends on what we're cooking... When cooking pasta's we boil the water before first and when cooking stews, veges or boiling meat its always while its cooking... Otherwise it will a long wait until we eat, especially for veges and meats...

to be honest with you i actually do both.depending on my mood and how much time i have.especially with my 3 young babies.sometimes i really hate to wait,so i will throw the noodles and everything at once, and sometimes i will wait for it to boil.it really depends.

I usually boil the water first and then I put the noodles or pasta in them. I find that I do not risk the noodles being overly soft if I do that. I, however, do not wait until it gets to be a rolling boil, but only when it just starts. I also separate the noodles with a fork and put a little olive oil in the water as well as salt so they do not stick.

Hi. raychill. I have started to just add the noodles into the boiling water. This also goes for anything else that I may cook too. I used to just add my food to cold water and then I will wait for the water to be brought to a boil, but I don't do that anymore. I allow my water to boil first and then I will add the noodles. I cooked noodles yesterday like this and it cooked well for me. Once I added the noodles, I will decrease the temperature on the stove to a medium setting so that it can still boil, but just not rapidly though.
