Do You Want Just Anyone To Be Able To Find Out Where You Live?

Have you ever googled your phone number? Try it. You may be surprised to see what comes up. Try in in several different formats. Try the entire number typed as one number. Try it as the sets of numbers separated by a space. Try any other way you want to. If google finds your address hit the map button and see what comes up. You can request to have this information blocked by clicking on your phone number. This is not new information to me but I thought you may be interested as we forget over time to keep tabs on this kind of information. Personally, I don’t want just anyone knowing where I live. Do you? I have done this peoples phone numbers when I am calling about an ad in the paper also. To see how to get to their homes.

I remember a friend of mine did that a few years ago, and she was surprised when a map came right up, giving directions to her house. I think that it is a bit much. I just tried googling a bunch of phone numbers, it does not seem to work for businesses. I guess only private citizens can have their privacy invaded

The internet is a wonderful thing, it is also a very scary thing. You can find out all kinds of info on a person. Some people are so careful about shredding old mail stuff like that. It really doesn't matter, anyone with a computer and internet can find out so much info on a person.

I did this a while back- I don’t want anyone having a map to my house- How unsafe is that- If I want someone to come to see me- I’ll give them directions- and my address- I think this is very odd- Especially with all the predators out there- I have removed my phone # and my parents. It was easier than explaining it to them- I just did it-

Thanks, I did not realize that. I just blocked mine. I don't want directions given to my house. Definitely not.

Thanks for sharing this I think I have seen this somewhere else but don't remember where. I have tried it but I didn't get anything to come up. Maybe I am not doing it right. I will try again later. Thanks for sharing the information. Have a great day.

I knew you could do this, but I really don't think you should be able to do this. I just don't think its safe or really a good idea for anyone to be able to do this so easily. I guess they can search by phone number in whitepages but that would be so much harder that no one would do it.

I tried this an got a good laugh at what I found, the information on the map was incorrect. They had me listed as living at my parent's house several miles away from where I actually live. I knew that you could do this, and I have done it before to get directions to someone's house, but never tried it with my own number until now. I didn't know that you could remove your information from their listings though. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for this villageanne. I have gone ahead and asked my husbands details to be removed from their listings. The map showed the correct address as well. Hmmm don't like the idea of others knowing where I live.

I personally wouldn't want my address accessible to everyone. The clients that we help often look up the workers and call them at home. They have even said they know where a person lives. Not a good ting.

Why would anyone bother unless they belong to the Burglers and Home Invaders Union. Mind you, for those of us who want to know how to get to a certain place, knowing how to get there, and for those police who get false information, this would be a good idea. It all depends on what you use it for. If you do not put your phone number up on your website, unless you are a business person, you have nothing to worry about. Also if you think it is all right to find where a person lives, why is not right for them to find out where you live?

I would not want any stranger to know where I lived too. Unless unavoidable, I would choose to leave my office contact instead of my home contact. Why should I leave my home contact when whoever wants the phone number only work during office hours and they contact during office hours.

I never tried that and until you brought it up, it had never even crossed my mind. Great information.
