I have a lot of very vivid scary nightmares. I wake up scared, sometimes I wake up crying. I almost always wake up feeling very tired.
My bad nightmares started with my first pregnancy, nine years ago. They just will not go away.
Does anyone else have vivid, horrible nightmares? I would like to hear what they are, and what you do to try not to have them.

You know, I have heard that sometimes certain foods right before bed, can cause nightmars. I'm not sure how true that is, but you could look into it.
I really don't suffer from nightmars anymore, maybe once in a blue moon. I use to have a lot as a teenager, but they slowly went away.
Maybe you need to just clear your mind right before bed, watch something funny, or something.
Talk with a doctor if you want, they could help, I'm sure.
good luck though on this.

I've heard that about foods too. Although I'm not sure which ones would cause it. I try not to eat too heavily before I go to bed. For a while I was able to meditate before I went to sleep, but for some reason I just cannot seem to do it anymore. I think it has something to do with my ADD. It's very hard to concentrate on clearing the mind, when it races with tons of stuff. If I were to talk to my doctor about this, she would just tell me that I need to lose weight. That's her cureall, LOL

Wooo... that is bad. I used to have scary nightmares before when I was 14 years old. Mostly I dreamt about kids, I never stop dreaming for 2 years about kids. When i said 2 years, I mean every night... I mean it EVERY NIGHT. Everyone said I was crazy and told them stupid stuff. However, It was there in my dream. I can't recall them but I knew it was not good.
well,Let me give you some tips if this might help you. I am not sure it is helpful or not but let try it, ok?
I heard you have a baby right? so I guess you are married. If so, what side of the bed do you usually sleep? right or left? and which direction of your bed headboard? (North, south, East or West). We dont allow to sleep heading to West. The best is North or South. Another thing, if your end bed facing to the door, then you have to move your bed a little(avoid the door, can't be direct straight facing the door)
I am not trying to scare you but this is real. When I was young I always slept heading to east and my feet just direct facing the door. Mostly if you do that, when you have a dream, it seem just like someone walk straight to you.
and if you dream about falling then it will fall so hard and you will screaming in your dream. You know what i mean right?
oh, dont put your both hand on you chest while you are sleeping. I hope it is help. just change some direction in your room a little. If you think you have a dream and you wake up, then you have to change your pillow up side down, and go back to sleep. Try it, and let me know if that's help

Smile, I sleep on the right side of the bed. Our headboard is toward the north. The bed doesn't face the door. I sleep on my stomach with left hand down to my side, and right hand up over my head, hanging off the bed. I've never turned my pillow over, but I can give it a try. Do you have any other suggestions?
I have a lot of nightmares, where I'm dreaming in my dream. I have to "wake up" two or three times. I think those are some of the worse nightmares. It's hard to tell if you're really awake or not!!
Does anyone else have any hints or suggestions how to tame nightmares? I've heard that if you're too hot it can cause nightmares. My room is always kept cool. I've also heard something about putting a butter knife or spoon under the pillow while you sleep. I can't remember which. Has anyone else heard this? Does anyone else do it? Any luck?

Sound like everything is doing fine with you. But I can't figure out why you have a nightmare. What do you usually dream about? can you tell? Well, why dont you try to remember what else did you bring into your house ? like weird stuff. About knife under the pillow is for the kids, but you can try. You can use knife or scissor, just put under your pillow. Clear up your mind before you go to bed...
Well, if you think it is really bad then you should talk to someone about this. having a bad dream every night is not good at all. Im sorry that I can't help

I'm not sure how well my experience relates, since my nightmares are mostly things that actually happened to me. However, one thing that a really nice therapist taught me was how to create a "super-image" of yourself, kind of a warrior you, and use it to fight off bad dreams. It requires a lot of practice to be able to control or interrupt your dreams, but I've find it sometimes works for me. =)
Another thing that I have really found helps is to go to sleep with something already in mind to dream about. Sort of start your dream as a pre-sleep fantasy, and it will usually continue.

Yes I too have nightmares. But I think they are a combination of your past failures and fears. Most of mine have been something like squaring off against my bully from school, being surrounded by snakes, being caught in a burning building. I have dreamed I was a character from a scary movie. In most cases I'm dreaming that I'm the hero, or that I'm able to control the snakes. There seems to be some weird twist in my dreams or nightmares. Also if I have a rather positive attitude when I go to bed, I'm less likely to have a bad nightmare.
