I saw this on the TV News, 2 nights ago. It scared the beJesus out of me (and I'm male). So I asked my wife about it. She says this goes back to our Great Grandparents time. They bore their kids at home, with no Medical Support, just the neighbor lady from down the road! I've read about the slave women bearing their children in the fields, but this is rediculous! And according to the news article, its a growing trend, in spite of the dangers! So I'm wondering if anybody has any more info, or perhaps you can relate your own personal experience?

I've had two friends give birth at home accidentally (one was sent home from the hospital, because she was told she wasn't far enough along with her labor), and they both said they felt glad in the end. It was nice to be in their own space after the baby was born. I had two natural births at the hospital, and there wasn't much for anyone to do besides catch the baby. I wanted to be in hospital just in case something went wrong, but I can see why a woman might prefer a home-birth, especially in an area where routine childbirth is highly medicalized.

Yes I find your response very interesting. I am beginning to understand why home-birthing is catching on. Congratulations on your 2 natural Births! I detect a hint of satisfaction in your words! It must be a Great Feeling to bring New Life into the world!

Thanks for the best response. I feel lucky that the births worked out the way I wanted them to, but I don't think less of women who decide they want medication, or who require it because of difficulties with the birth. Everyone has to judge for herself how much pain she is experiencing and what she needs to get through it. I don't know if I'd say I'm proud; grateful is probably a better world.

yup, here in ontario (canada) we have midwives and you can choose to give birth that way or not...its up to the individual and her dr (obviously if there are complications of any sort, its hospital bound for the mom to be) i had c sections with both of my girls so i didnt go that route, but i do know people that have...

Oh.. my goodness. There is no way I would recommend giving birth to a child this way! So many things could go wrong. All of my children were born in the hospital. My second child, I had nothing for pain. It all happened so fast and they said it was too late to give me anything. Now that was natural childbirth! It was so painful! I never would do that again! Afterwards, I was sick with infection and developed a blood clot in my leg. Bed ridden for two weeks. It was aweful. Ladies...do not do this.
