I believe that the point of prayer is to prove that you believe that he is there. Even in life you don't get help unless you ask why should God be any different? does that make sence? Anyway that's what I think.

The real significance of prayer is to contact God in our spirit to absorb God Himself. The emphasis of prayer lies not in asking God for things but in contacting and absorbing God. (www.ministrybooks.org, Life Lessons #4)

ok,a definition of"Prayer?" would be in Order! Are you asking, telling, thanking, or crying? And, Yes, God knows everything you have ever said, now, and in the future, but He does not care! God has Given us free will. That means we are free to do, and Say, anything at anytime. WE can even curse God, and it won't bother Him at all, Why U say? Because he has given us free will. When God Gives, its a all encompassing gift. There are no Ifs or Buts.If you are asking for a gift from God, the proper procedure is to Thank Him first. Say "Thanks" for the gift, even before you have it, and sure enough you will be Blessed!

i am a follower of the vedic religion ( hare krishna) when we pray its always 'just' praising God and we NEVER ask for anything because God knows what we want :)

The point of prayer is to focus yourself, just like meditation. Too many think of it as a wish list without realizing the power it creates is power within. If we think of prayer as a journal where we deposit our most precious thoughts, we can see the good we can accomplish by learning to know ourselves better. What do we dream about? What are we grateful for? What do we want to change? What are we willing to do to accomplish our goals? Only when we realize we are using Divine Love to talk to ourselves can we grasp the power Divine Love has already bestowed upon us. Only then can we learn to trust ourselves enough to use that power, which is both our right and our responsibility.

Yes of course God know everything but he wants us to realize what we are saying and doing, prayer is to help us to come closer to God. The more we come closer to God the more we realize about the wrong that we do each day. The Power of prayer and faith, by which miracles happen. There are a lot miracles that happens in our day-to-day lives, and God helps us in many small ways but we name it as coincidence.

God does know all, but like others have said He gave us free will, and he cant help us until we ask for help. He wants us to come to Him, and praise, and love him.

It is to acknowledge HIM as LORD of all. God expects you to pray and to thank HIM for what HE has done. God created the whole universe, and as such should be adored. We pray to God to acknowledge HIM, to request our needs, to thank HIM for what HE has done, and to ask forgiveness of our sins. Even though GOD knows everything,HE still expects us to ask HIM for our needs and thank HIM for fulfilling them.

exactly - again another great point and question which is why I am not catholic anymore - where is the evidence - nobody can show me they also said I was not willing to open up - well I am sorry not being able to open up to a religion that says one thing and then goes and does another thing - love all they said - hmm interesting and a great thing, right? Wrong! THe catholics have a standard of who to love you see - if you are different from them they call you a sinner and tell you to repent now. How about talking and loving them for who they are and not pressuring them into your religion and tell them that they are loved and hope they have a wonderful beutiful life regardless if they repent. I see all too often hatred from most religions, where is the love in that I ask? IF God is the knower of all, then he better inform his followers to stop speaking for him since they are making him out to be an idiot.

I think prayer is an important part of your relationship between God because it signifies your intrest in him, rather than just his intrest in us. He says ask and ye shall recieve not think and you shall recieve ya know.

Magnel wrote: "The more we come closer to God the more we realize about the wrong that we do each day." Are we are so indoctrinated with the negative put out by the various religions that we think this is the norm "God" wants? Divine Love doesn't want that for us. That's men talking, men who thrive on power and control -- and who use guilt and shame to achieve their aims. As we move closer to Divine Love, we discard the focus on "wrong" and embrace the glory of what we do, think and feel each day that is magnificent, loving, inviting. In other words, we embrace the glory of our real selves instead of the downcast, depressed, easily-controllable person the power mongers wish for us to be. KTdidit wrote: "He says ask and ye shall recieve not think and you shall recieve ya know." Actually, he said nothing of the sort. He didn't write anything in the Bible. It was all written by others pretending to speak for him. Some may have been sincere and trying to impart what Yeshua taught, but even these people would have been writing their own perception of what he taught. This would be true of you and I too, if we'd been there, because that is the way our brains work. So be a little discretionary when using the Bible. Let your heart, intuition and emotions lead you to the truth, which Yeshua taught was within us all.
