Do you think a child should be put in a special class because they are shy?

When my eldest daugther went for her pre-school screening they wanted to put her in a special class because of it. They said that because shy was so shy that she wouldn't answer their questions that they thought that it would be better for her. I disagreed and put her in a regular class.Would you have allowed them to put your child in a special class for that reason?

No, I wouldn't have allowed them to place any of my children in a special class just because they were shy. I don't see what good could come out of separating her. If I was you I would take the time to go to school with her the first day or so to help her get comfortable in the classroom. Maybe if you take the time to introduce her to the other children it will help her make a friend.

I agree with you. Putting a child in a special class because of shyness is horrible. It just isn't fair, being shy doesn't mean that you are mentally slow.
