I believe without a doubt, that PPD is a real disorder. I believe I am suffering with it, although I have never been diagnosed. However, I do not believe Andrea Yates should be able to use that as an excuse for killing her children. I don't think ANYONE should be allowed to use that as an excuse. I am depressed, I get angry, annoyed, but I have never--EVER thought about harming myself or my children, and if I did, I would have called and gotton help. I know someone who was diagnosed with PPD and she did have thoughts of harming her child, and she got help. So even if Andrea Yates does have PPD, she could have called someone. If that can be used as an excuse, any woman that ever commits murder can use that as an excuse. It's not fair, and it's not right. And why should those poor babies have to die and their murderer mother get to go to a mental institution?? Give me a break! This is just my opinion, and maybe it's harsh, but I just don't see why this is okay. PPD does not make you kill your kids, I'm sorry, it' doesn't. I feel bad for anyone whose had PPD, because I've been there. And if she is really crazy, what the hell was she doing with her kids, ALONE? If what they are saying is true, the HUSBAND should be in prison for leaving his children alone with a woman that he KNEW was out of her mind! Ugh. It just makes me mad that she's getting away with murder because "She has PPD".
