Love a Lefty

I'm a lefty and I find some things to be difficult, especially when I was in school. All the desks were for right handed people and three ring binders were hard to write in without taking your paper out. I would always smudge my writing too, until I got to the back of the page. When I was in Cosmetology, my teachers never realized I was left handed and thought my haircuts were off because I was I was struggling. Turns out it was because my shears were for right handed people and I had to have left handed ones orderd. I'm also the only lefty in my family. Do you have any lefty related stories?

I'm a lefty, too! I do a lot of things (like painting, stirring, cleaning, etc.) with both hands because, over the years, I've had to force myself into adaptations because I was sick of struggling in a right-handed world. Like you, I had trouble in school and with writing. I taught myself to hoover over pages when writing so they wouldn't smudge - that was a hard trick to learn, but I'm glad I did. LOL

I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggled with writing! I remember doing the hover thing too and a friend of mine asked me what I was doing one time. I'm trying to write without smuding! I wish I could use both hands more but I'm not that talented.:)

Oh trust me - it took me years and YEARS of practicing, messing up, giving up and trying again before I could get the hang of using both hands. LOL It frustrated the heck out of me, but I didn't want something like that get the best of me. hee hee

I'm a righty...and I've always been a righty and I can't even remember anyone I know being a lefty which is horrible because I know I know some left handed people! Uh... I do remember though wasn't there a simpsons episode where flanders opened a lefty's store? It is kind of sad that the world has really been made for right handed people.

Maybe there's one in some springfield somewhere! I did have to be left-handed once now that I think about it. When I was in 5th grade I broke my wrist and thumb on my right hand. So I was all invalid because I couldn't use my right hand for a bunch of stuff...you know, not having a thumb makes things all sorts of complicated! I had to learn to eat with my left hand and I had to carry things in my left hand. it was really tough.

Oh my God, you are just not going to believe this. I am left handed and I never thought about the three ring binder thing. To this day, I still struggle with that, until I finally take the paper out. I never wondered why that was so uncomfortable. Maybe, I just assumed that I was supposed to take the paper out. I know about the left hand scissor thing. I have regular ones and I suppose that is why I can't cut straight. I never thought about it that way, I just assumed that I could not cut good. Oh well, I learn something new every day. Good topic, thanks.

If you think of anything else, please let me know. Maybe then I wont feel so inadaquate about so much. I am with you on the sloppy writing thing. I hate to ever write in cursive. I mean it is legible, but that is about it.

I can't cut in a straight line to save my life.:) The three ring binder thing used to drive me crazy in school because I wanted to be able to write in my notebook without having to take all my papers out that I was using. I'm sure there are more things I could think of if I thought about it long enough. Oh to be a lefty...

My great grandmother on my dads side of the family was left handed. I was born left handed but my mom didn't want me to have to face the dificulties that you ahve just described so when I was a toddler she changed me... So now I'm somewhat ambedexterous lol! I write and eat with my right hand but do everything else (throw, golf, play hockey, kick) with my left hand....

I had a little girl in my preschool class that was ambedexterous because her mom didn't want her to be a lefty. I wish I could use both hands.:)

I am actually right handed but I do know that it is difficult for you left handed people. I have some family members and friends who are left handed and I know it is difficult for them because of the smudge when you are write. Plus just about everything is made for right handed people.

I don't know what is about things being more difficult, but for some reason they are. The writing is what gets to me now because I like for my writing to be neat.
