Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat? WHY? my dad set it there one day just to clean the toaster and left it and i got this HORRIBLE hocky puck like bagel...it scares me.. So why do you think we have toaster with awful toast settings.

It is strange why toasters have so many settings - I have never thought about that before! I put my toaster on the second setting, because I like it pretty much just warmed up, with a tiny bit of a golden crisp to it. However, when I was growing up, I think I was about 6 or 7 at this time, I went through a phase of liking really burnt toast (I kid you not). We didn't have a toaster at the time, and we used to make toast under the grill - but I literally used to wait until the toast was black before I would eat it! One day then, the bread actually caught fire, and silly old me tried to eat it - it was like chewing on ashes, so that was the end of that phase! :o)

Some people like extremely dark toast, some people put it one that setting so in a couple second they can pop the toast out at the amount of toastyness they want instead of waiting a minute. (damn impatient people.) People alto use that setting to toast frozen bread.

The makers need to be sure they have settings that can handle anything you might put into it. Sometimes if you have a big family the older toasters would need to be turned up so that they would continue to toast batch after batch of toast. Something about the toaster getting hot and thinking because it is so hot that the toast is done when in fact it is just because you have toasted 14 pieces of toast this morning for the family!

hey i like this question. it makes a lot of sense to ask it. maybe there are actually kinds of bread that are very hard and the toaster needs to be set on high to toast hard bread
