Ah yes, depression, I don't mean to make light of it, far from that. I am in my 60's and have suffered from chronic depression since I was 14. With me, it is because my body does not produce enough of the happy hormone that helps keep me balanced. Yes, for sure, it can cause short term memory loss. When ever anything traumatic happens to me, my mind shuts down completely. I have tried to stop this from happening but so far have been unable to. My main problem with that state of mind is my temper. So long as I take my meds, I can usually control it but sometimes it does get away from me. Anger management does not do anything for me, so I try very hard to avoid situations where I know I will lose it. Also, as a result of this condition, I isolate myself from people, though people seem to like me, I can usually take them or leave them, prefer my own company. Have been this way for so long now it is second nature with me. Anything anyone wants to know about this subject, keep me in mind, I know everything there is to know, just about. You are all right, this is a hideous disease.

What was the question? Oh thats right sorry I forgot what I was doing there for a sec.
Seriously though yes it can, and also if an event was very traumatic our brains as a defence can totaly block it, making us unable to remember any of it. I think meds play a part in memory loss as well and as a depressed person is normally tired as well this can also cause us to be forgetful.

Depression is a disease that will lead to mentally disorder and weaken your memory as well.If you are under long term depression situation then your are more likely to have bad memory .Sometimes can cause your brain go completely blank for a second and unable to think about anything until your brain back to its normal functionality.
I said so because few years ago i had this horrible experience while i was driving my car to the store, suddenly my brain go blank and i was freaking out for this sudden attack.Suddenly i can remember where am i suppose to go,i decided to pull over my car and rest .Fortunately this sudden attack disease wasn't last long,it back to normal after a couple minutes.
I am so luck to tell you i am completely recovered and no longer suffer from depression after i have gone through the natural remedy and intake natural supplement. Thanks god!

I have had a mental illness for a very long time now but I have it all under control these days without the help of medication, but sometimes I do get a bit stressed and when I do I have really bad memory problems which can be really frustrating. I have gone through several bad things in my life and for some reason my mind seems to have blocked a lot of that time out, my partner has said to me a few times do you remember this and I don't as my mind has blocked that time of my life out. Sometimes it is a good thing though to block certain things out!

I think depression causes memory loss, I was on medication for awhile and couldn't remember anything. Now I have what I call selected memory, remembering only what I want to remember.

Depression is a serious medical illness,, it's not something that we have made up in our head. It's more than just a feeling "down in the dumps" for a few days or maybe more.
It makes one feel exhausted, worthless, helpless and hopeless i reckon. Negative thoughts and feelings makes some people feel like giving up so its merely affecting one's feelings and not the memory itself. (,")
