i live my life the best way i can and try to be a good person. many believe that such an approach to life is all that God requires. others feel certain that even of theu sin gravely, God does not care as long as their overall life pattern is positive. they belive that God is more inclined to forgive than to condemn. of course, defining of "being good" vary from person to person. but what does the bible say? what must we do to have God's approval? what does it mean to be a good person in God's eyes?

I don't really know or care what the bible says. my religion doesn't treat people differently if they beleive or don't beleive. it's all about what sort of person you are. surely only a vain and immature God would think that beleif in them is more important than being a good person.

I do believe in God, but not really in organized religion and the Bible as being perfect and unerring, and that is basically what I think, if God cares more about the belief than in how we live our lifes, I'm not sure I'd want to worship that God. If someone can lead a very "good" life, like by being caring, helpful, just overall GOOD person, but not get into heaven because they didn't believe and put God first-then Heaven doesn't sound like the kind of place I'd want to be.

God's answer to your questions is in the bible. I recommend you read it. If possible, from beginning to end (from Genesis to Revelation). Most people interpret the bible to their own advantage so my advice to you is that when you read the bible, first pray to God and ask him for knowledge and to be able to understand. And then, read the bible with an OPEN heart and I promise you, God will help you understand his message. But it will ONLY happen if you do it with an open heart AND with the RIGHT intention.

I'm not a Christian anymore nor do I believe in god, the words of the bible etc etc BUT I do believe that IF there were truly a god or goddess I doubt very much they would appreciate or approve of how many fundies (from various religions, not just Christianity) treat others with such hatred, discrimination and so on.....I think the key thing of importance would be how one lives their life and whats in their heart....If you live life with compassion, understanding and acceptance..thats whats important..if you live life with a positive attitude and are truly a good soul..thats whats important...

You are asking if being good is all that matters. I say, being good is very important to make this world a better, peaceful, happier place to live in.But it's not all that matters. So what does the bible say about being good? Well, a person's goodness, a person's good deeds won't bring him salvation. It won't redeem him. We are not saved by our good works. We are saved by grace. Salvation is a gift from GOD. so i guess that tells us that being good is not all that matters. Something else matters, like our faith. Faith is what we need to be saved. Good works, or being good is the fruit of that faith. To have God's approval, you need faith followed by good works. Again Faith without work is deed. Your faith inside must also show outside. Being a good person in GOD's eyes is having the nine fruits of the spirit, namely, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. If you have these fruits, you know you have GOD's favor and that the Holy Spirit dwells in you. :)

"Being a good person in GOD's eyes is having the nine fruits of the spirit, namely, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control." OOoh now this is interesting and i'm so glad you mentioned this.....I know of a few Christians who are SERIOUSLY LACKING some of those fruits for example - Kindness, Gentleness and self Control...(that last one is a DOOZIE)....so now I've got to ask....Certain Christians who are so high on themselves and beleive that "spreading the word" is required of them etc BUT the way they go about it is COMPLETELY WITHOUT Kindness, Gentleness and most of all WITHOUT self control....So do ppl like that NOT have Gods favour in their corner so to speak??

I say if it's legal or you can get away with it, and your conscience allows it, then, heck, why not do it. Trying to guess what will earn you approval is not a great way to live, in my opinion.

That is a very dangerous way to think.

God's requirement are summed up in two commands first is to love God above all things and the other is to love your neighbor as you love your self. Only God alone matters,to be a good person is to have love in ones life, love even your enemies for it shows that you love God and that makes us apart from others.

i all depends on what god you praise.it so many differnt type of religons out there.i belive that we all come short of sin and that we have to ask for forgiveness and we will be forgive. if we all were perfect what type of life would that be .i belive the words in the holy bible i try to follow but we i sin and fall down but i get back up again and start all over.we can only do the best we can and at the end hope an pray that it leads as to the right door in the end.
