Has anyone here overcome an addiction? Any addiction like alcohol, cigarettes, sugar, gambling etc. How did you do it? My fiance and i have decided to quit drinking and smoking. We only drink and smoke socially but we have decided to take control of our health and kick it all for good. I think it shouldn't be too hard because we don't depend on alcohol or cigarettes, it's just the social apstect of it. So how did you overcome your habit?

Well as you may or may not know I quit smoking 8th January and used the patches for a few weeks before just whipping myself straight off them in the middle of the programme and I quit for 6 months and then I went on holiday the other week and started again. Damn!
Just remember ice cold water and loads of it. I can totally recommend a site that is a social network for quitters and they give you certificates and stuff.

I admire you for trying to make your lives better. It's your own decisions, but truthfully you will both be better in the long run for overcoming these habits. I don't know if I have had to overcome an addiction. I have a disease that makes a person gain weight, and it makes it harder to lose the weight. So I have had to be even extra strict on everything I eat. Brown rice, no white rice. Soy milk, no real milk. So I have had to alter everything in order to lose weight that normally wouldn't be as hard to lose. It is a struggle, but I feel healthier and more confident in my ability to make educated decisions.
