I love to make necklaces, bracelets and earrings. I've always just done it for fun and for gifts in the past, but I think I'm going to try to sell some at a craft fair this year. Does anyone else make their own jewelry/crafts? If so, have you ever tried to sell them and how well did that work out?

I sell my crafts on the side and have learned a few lessons along the way. First, is not to sell handmade items on Ebay (with a few execptions). People on eBay are often looking for a deal, and don't understand the effort and skill that goes into making a handmade item, they just want to get something as cheaply as possible. Instead I sell my crafts here: www.effulgentcrafts.etsy.com Etsy is a marketplace just for handmade goods...like a virtual craft fair, and the customers there are more likly to understand and pay fair prices. Pricing is a tricky thing. As crochet or knitting, or making jewelry is a skill, one should not only charge for material, but for their time as well. I used to charge far too little for my items, and then I realized I was hurting myself in many ways...most importatly, if something is priced cheaply, people may assume it's cheaply made. This can actually hurt sales! I think the best thing to do is price things fairly and within market (check out your competiton to make sure you are in the range. Good luck and happy sales!
