He has the ability to see how things tick(work). That's why he kills those others that have special powers and eats their brain. He is then able to integrate it with himself.
At least that's what I believe Sylar meant when he said something amongst that line in one of the episodes.

I'm pretty positive that Sylar eats the brains. Throughout the various episodes, a lot of people with special powers have their brains missing. So I think it's safe to assume that Sylar cuts open peoples heads after seeing how they work and eats the brain in order to assimilate their powers. Otherwise if he didn't really eat the brain, the police and FBI would probably have found the missing brains by then.

I've been wondering the same thing, I don't think they ever told us. He's supposed to have something, but the professor couldn't find anything special. Perhaps his power is the ability to indeed take the powers of others and learn how to control them? Although, I'm not sure of that.

I think he has his own power too but kinda complicated to think it now.Maybe he can learn the powers' just by looking at them.I got confused what he had done to those "power" brains..eat them??We can see his real power in early season 2 ,for sure?? im looking forward to it.Sylar's face is scary..

sylar's power is he knows how things work simply by looking at them. he said that he became a watch maker because he knows how things work smply by looking at them. that's how he gets the other heroes' powers, by getting their brains and looking at them. although, my husband believes he eats the brains to get their power. what do you think?

Sylar has a power similar to Peter: the ability to absorb powers from other powered individuals. However, the method is different. Peter somehow absorbs another person's power through contact or proximity and then uses that power on an ongoing basis by remembering that person and how he felt when he was with them. Peter seems to have to ability to retain these powers permanently.
Sylar's power is the same, but the method is different: he somehow absorbs his victim's power from their brain, although we've never seen how. I'd be surprised if anyone else could do that. We've never actually seen him eat brain tissue, so we're not sure how it happens.

Sylar's power would be that he can see how things work just by looking at them, and then also the ability to absorb power from other's by removing their brains.
I am not sure if I believe that he eats the brains, or just removes the part with the power or what it is.
It has not been said a lot what he does with them, just that their heads have been cut open.
I can't wait to see series 2 of Heroes.
In Australia we are having episode 23 being shown next week, so it will be a long wait until we get the next series.
Bring it on.

Yes, I believe he has his own power. Sylar's initial power is the ability to immediately know how things work. He thought it was just with watches but apparently he can discern what makes anything (even people) tick. This is why he can absorb other people's powers. He knows what he needs to get from them and how to use it to increase the powers he holds. I don't think the powers have to be very grandiose. The powers can be as simple as learning very quickly (like the waitress he killed).
