Hi:
We were given a cat. She is a love but she sheds so badly it is getting to the point we even hate to touch her. I have petted her with used Bounce Sheets. This helped a lot but then that affects the feel of her fur. It distracts from the reason why I like to pet her. I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions without me having to pay a vet bill which I can't afford right now. I still pet her because I love her. I just wish I knew what to do about all that hair. Thank you for your suggestions.

Get a brush. You may be surprised. Some cats love to have their fur brushed. I have to brush my dogs all the time because they shed a lot too. Its easier to brush them once in a while then to vacuum the floor all the time. After a few times brushing them, they will have less fur coming off. as long as you continue to brush it, you shouldn't have a problem.

My girl sheds like crazy, I have tried brushing but it doesn't help much. Some days you would think the cat should be bald for the amount of hair she has lots. We have tried different foods and all the things the vet suggested but nothing helps her. She is just a shed machine and we love her so we live with it, or rather my son lives with it as that is the room she wants to live in. The vet thinks its a nervous thing that she sheds out of fear of everything. All you can do is try brushing, try a different food but give it a bit to work through her system, maybe talk to a vet about other things if you can't get it under control and hope it works for you or learn to live with hairy hands, faces, furniture, clothes you know all the places cat hair gets.

Your welcome, one thing I should note is if you buy a brush for her make sure it has little plastic caps on the ends of the bristles so you don't hurt her skin. I had a cat once that loved getting brushed but we had an old slicker brush with metal bristles and they scratched his back and he got an infection. She may or may not like being brushed, my Tabby girls loves it but my Sammy hates being brushed he is the most homely looking thing sometimes because he has long hair and won't let me brush him so I have to cut the mats out.

Get a brush for your cat, most pet sections and pet stores sale them. They will help in reducing the amount of fur that flies when you pet her. Make sure you get one that is suitable for the length and thickness of her fur. Also they sale pet shampoos and wipes that help control shedding problems. Most are fairly inexpensive to purchase.

Get a cat brush and brush her. Most cats love the feeling of being groomed. It will help remove the excess fur but you don't have to do it with your bare hands. Plus it stimulates the coat for a healthy shine.
Just remember that it's summer time and animals shed A LOT at this time of year. Could you imagine walking around with a fur coat? So for most cats this massive amount of shedding will be temporary.

i have 5 cats who are all shed monsters.
i just brush them every day to help them get rid of their winter coat when it transitions from winter to summer.it lessens every day when you keep on it.

I have a cat names Smokey who has long gray fur. We got him at a shelter but he is so soft w believe he is an angor cat. He sheds all year long nd his fur usually clumps together as it sheds and comes off of him in balls. In order to try to control how much butt fur he leaves stuck to my furniture I have this little cat brush. Its different from a regular brush that the bristles are made of wire. It works really good and pulling the sheded fur out of his still attached fur and he doesn't seem to mind it too much, though he seems to think being brushed is a game.

I have found my cats shed when they need worming. The tablets are usually available at the supermarket shouldnt involve the vet. They need doing about every three months especially in the summer. Might help a bit but as the other responses mention cats do molt a winter coat.

Its called the Ferminator. It is a little expensive but its the last cat brush you will ever need to buy. I can brush out my Himalayan once or twice a week when I get all the heavy hair out of her. This thing is amazing and the video's on the website are true to form. I use it on my cats and my two large dogs.
Ferminator.com
Check it out.

Avoid rich diet for her , thats what a vet would recommend , no i am not a vet , but my girlfriend is a feline lover and she has a couple of those in her house. She also faced the same shedding problem and when we went to the vet the vet said dont allow her to skip baths , a daily bath is necessary, apart the diet i told , try massaging the body with a blunt tooth comb.
Hope it helps.

I would also suggest brushing your cat to help keep the hair under control. I have seen gloves that you can use when you pet your animal that collect the lost hair, you might want to try one of those. Good luck!
