Are You Happy With Your Name?

I have a very common name from my generation. My first name is Susan and many girls from my generation were given that name. I have used variations of that name over the years or people just did that for me. I would have liked a more exotic name, but now I'm glad for the name I was given as my mom gave me this name after her own mom, who had passed away. Are you happy with your given name and if not, what name would your have chosen for yourself or, did you change your name anyway because you simply didn't like the one you were given?

I'm happy with my first name. It's common, but spelled very differently than most. I don't really like my middle name, but it's not the worst name in the world.
If I had been born a boy, my name would've been Christopher Ray. My name is Chrystal. My sister's name was Christina. So, even though we were both born girls, the Chris name theme, I guess you could say, stuck. We both were also named after family members. My middle name came from my aunt's name. My sister's middle name came from my grandma's middle name.
My name has a bit of family history, and I won't change it. =)

I love the way your name is spelled and I also love family names. My own daughter was named for a grand parent, but we only kept the first letter the same and named her Haley. She loves the name, but hates that no one spells it properly as there are so many various versions of the same name. I'm sure you have also experienced that yourself. Thanks!

My first name is Michele. I don't have any problem with that, but people always want to shorten it to Shelly, and I absolutely abhor that name!

I think having a name than can be shortened is always an issue with people who have such a name. People have always wanted to call me either Sue or Suzie and I really don't care for either version and prefer being called Susan, but I'm at a stage of my life where I don't dwell on it.

I would first like to thank you for an interesting topic. About names, i dont really mind my name and i seriously think that no one should be upset with his/her name. It what you do with it? A person could have a name that means something so bad but because of his may be good attitude he could become a symbol for strength. Names are how we get to know each other, but how we treat one another is key. When Oprah was becoming famous but her company and sponsers at first suggested to change her name to something like Suzi but she refused. And how do people react when they hear OPRAH.. I guess everyone can say what they want but at the end of the day she is a respected woman in society...from a name that 100 years ago many people would consider that name as unpopular and probably weak. So its what you do with the name really... ;)

My first name is Sara. I like my name a lot but I agree with what you said I would have loved to have a more exoctic name. I want to give my kids unique names one day when I am older, but I guess in a way it would be a bad a day. I grew up around a lot of kids from other countries and I always loved there names. My family is Italian but my name is not at all. However, I am what I am and I think Sara fits me really well.

In my case, my name is sort of commonplace too. On the first day of the year in high school, the teacher took attendance by calling people out by their first name. When mine came up, about five of us harmoniously replied with, "Here." It's laughable that in a large roomful of people, if someone called out my first name, several would probably respond.

I never think of changing my name. I don't wanna bother myself with such things.
The name is just used by others. I don't care it's common or not.

I can say this i was not very happy when i was a teenage girl but now I love my name. I think teenage girls always dream so mnay thing that they expect more and more from everything as I used to think if my name would be "this" or "that". may be there was no reason. Actually i love my name and it is given by mom and dad out of their immense love for their child so how could i dislike it?
Happy time friend

I do like my name now. But I didnt like my name in my childhood. I dont know the reason though. Infact, I had a fight with my parent for having me this name in my childhood. But later when I grew up, I started loving my name. Even for loving my name now, I dont know the reason.
But usually people say, your name will be the sweetest word to hear, when it is said by your lover. What do you think about this ?

Sometime ago I was not pleased with my name because being in the province most people pronounced my name incorrectly. And often times my classmates and playmates makes fun of my name because when being pronounce incorrectly it sounded like a bird and it annoys me a lot. But when I went to college where most of my classmates and instructors say my name with the right pronounciation I just then realized how Lovely it sound (,")

so i tell people to call me by my middle mane, Geovanne, or just Geo. but still, i have stuff with big "A"s on them. if im going to get stuff to go with "GEO" it would have to have thoes three letters.
