I use built in modem for my dial-up connection. For last few days while connecting to internate, an error message I receive. But after half an hour wait, it the modem works properly and connects to internate.
Here is the exact error message: "The connection failed because the modem or other connecting device failed. Please make sure that the modem or other connecting device is installed."
I scanned my system for any spyware or virus. Even I reinstalled the modem drivers. No result. Please help. I am not very frequent in mylot now a days due to such problem.

Hi Ronimas,
I am a computer technician. A lot of the times when you recieve the type of error your computer is giving either the modem itself is going out, or it could be caused from either heat or dust.
Over time with the heating and cooling of the computer, it can cause the modem circuit board to start to creep out of the motherboard. In that case, the usual remedy is to take the card out, and then put it back in all the way. That is called reseating the modem. Dust over time can also get into the contacts between the modem and motherboard and cause bad connection. I personally would remove the modem and while it is out get a can of compressed air to blow it out good, and then reseat the modem. Electronic parts attract dust much like a tv screen. This can cause real problems like shorting out the motherboard, or plugging the colling fins of the processor. It is recommended that a computer be taken apart at least once every six months to blow out the dust. If that doesnt fix it, it may be that the modem is failing. Fortunately modems are very inexpensive now days. I can purchase one from my wholesalers for under 10 dollars.
One more option just occured to me. You might want to call your phone company and have them run a line test. Static on phone lines can prevent connection.
That static can increase or decrease depending on weather, rain, etc. if the line is becoming degraded.
I would be more inclined to think the phone line is the less likely cause for that particular message, but a line test doesnt cost you anything.
Good luck

Thanks Kingri. Your valuable inputs solved my problem. Even the heating problem was also fixed which was due to stubborn dust particles over cooling fan blades. Really, I learned dust was the most culprit for all nuisances. One more question kingri, instead blower can I use handy vaccum cleaner to clean my PC? Take care.

I'm sorry to hear you have such a problem Ronimas. But unfortunately I never used dial-up connection and the only advice I can give you is to call the customer service of your internet connection. Maybe they need to reset everything to get it working again. I hope you will resolve the problem soon. Take care my friend.
