When you walk out the door of your dwelling...are there eyes immediately focused in your direction? When you have a conversation in your yard....does everyone listen? No movement goes undetected by viewers..... Do you ever feel like you live in fish bowl?? Not me... I can walk outside in my pj's and no one looks up except my horses and the dogs....my son and grandchildren can play in the front yard and scream and giggle all they want to (as long as I can stand it...LOL)...and it bothers nobody... What about you?

Yes I do. I live in a little town so everyone knows everyone elses business anyway but to make it worse we live at the end of main street. I used to have my window without a shade because I have my computer right by it and I loved watching outside while I worked. Well after everyone kept waving and then asking me what do you do on your computer all day I decided I didn't like being watched so had to put up a shade. If I go outside everyone stops to ask me questions or to tell me the recent gossip. It drives me nuts. I suppose it is harder for me because I came from a city where I didn't even know hardly any of my neighbors. So yep I am in a fish bowl and no where to swim to hide*L*

Tricia...Hun, I am so sorry...didn't mean to poke the proverbial bear...LOL I live in the country but one of my son's lives in an apartment complex...when I go by there it seems the whole place stops momentarily to ensure that they do not "miss" something worthy of intense gossip... Thanks for sharing with me....

No, not really! I live in the Town of Vienna, in an apartment block and every one pretty much keeps to themselves, except ONE neighbor who tends to know everyones business LOL If I need to find out anything like for e.g. there was a police man knocking on our neighbors door across the hall and I was worried something happened while we were away in Connecticut, so I asked her and she most definitely knew LOL - nothing to get worried about so that was good!) We do watch out for each others places though which is one good thing I like about living here :)

Sounds like you are very haooy where you live...it is ablessing when you feel comfortable in YOUR SPACE!! I love living in the country BUT I have lived in a nice little neighbor like yours where we really did not interfere in each others lives much but did look out for each other...at that time in my life....it was perfect... Thanks so much for sharing with me, my friend...

Yeah, I do all the time. My immediate neighbors are unfortunately very nosy and I am not comfortable at all with them. It's as if I am a celebrity or something. I can't do something without being asked why. They make me pissed off, I don't feel the privacy anymore being around them. When their questions are too much, and I can no longer tolerate and being nice, I would just be sarcastic to them and told them what they wanted to hear, even though it's not the truth. I don't know what is the reason they are saying things like that. Maybe it's jealousy. I am not sure, that's the acceptable reason that I can think of.

I am so srry that you have neighbors like this, Ladysurvivor....I think that jealouy would be at least a logical reason...LOL I would hate to live with people looking at me each time I walked out of the front door.... Thanks so much for sharing with me....

Oh yea, we live in a fish bowl. WE live in an apartment complex on the first floor so we always have to watch what we say cause people are always walking by .You get stared at all the time. that's what's so cool living in a rural or semi rural area-no prying eyes ,don't have to watch what you say,etc

I am sorry that you feel this way...it would drive me crazy...kill my spirit of freedom....although I realize that I have lived places that I did not care for at times in my life..until I was able to retire and buy a small farm...which I truly love... Thanks so much for sharing with me....

no, never, because i do not let anybody affects me. i do not care if they look at me, i have my own way! i can laugh, giggle outside or inside my home, my baby can play freely. i can scream in a movie house because of horror films, i really express what i feel and i really show what's the real me no matter what they say! as long as i am not hurting anyone.

I live in an urban city, tinam. As soon as I stepped out of the house, there will be a lot of people on the street. I actually have a neighbor whose 4 children are forever yelling and screaming outside of their house. They also love to loiter around by throwing papers or junk food anywhere. I have to admit that I find this irritating at times especially when I have clients dropping by at my house. It would be so much better if my neighbor knows that a little semblance of peace is needed from time to time.

Oh yes, my friend...I can relate to this.... When I was a child I was raised on a farm...after I had my older children...I was forced to live in the urban cities in order to support them....BUT now that I am relatively retired....I live on a farm again...it is not as big as the one my Grandparents had...but I am very happy with our 15 acre mini-farm...LOL Thanks my frend, for sharing with me...

Where I live now no I do not fell like I live in a fishbowl. I have no neighbors that can see me when I walk outside. But I know what you are talking about because when I lived in an apartment house I use to hate it. I would not want to even go out and walk to my car in the parking lot because so many people would be out there gawking. I would make sure I had the right clothes on and a little make up and my hair was combed. But where I live now I go out in my pj's too. I love it we have 2 acres and no neighbors close by!

I see that we are of the same mind set on this subject, my new friend....it seems we have both experienced similar lifestyles and both chose to stay in the private serenity of the countryside.... Thanks so much for the invite to my friend's list...I have approved...I hope we are able to enjoy getting to know one another better through our discussions and responses....

There are times when I feel like I live in a fish bowl. Our neighbors on the one side seem to like to stare at is when they are outside at the same time as us. There was a day a few weeks ago that our two year old German Shepard mix got out of our yard. My daughter came inside to tell my fiancee and I about it as our sons were calling her name to get her to come back. There at the edge of our property stood our neighbors son who is in his twenties. He didn't offer to help or anything. He just stared at us as if we had just committed a crime or something.

That is the type of neighbors I always seemed to end up with when I lived in the city...OR I would have one of them and then 2-3 that thought my house was the local daycare because I would make snacks and drinks...so the kids always wanted to be at my house.... Thank you, my dear friend, for sharing with me...

Tina, I guess you live in a farm or homestead, so you can go out of your home and scream on top of your voice, and no one will hear you except the animals. Horses and dogs don't gossip I suppose, so you are quite safe...LOL. Unlike you, I live in an urban "jungle". My country is small and very built-up, so there are buildings all round me. If I shout till my lungs burst, the police will probably come knocking at my door because someone may think I have gone craxy. But my immediate neighbours are actually a friendly peaceful lot, and they are not nosy and pry into other people's affairs. So I still leave very peacefully and safe here. Actually the whole place is very safe here because it is a privatized estate with controlled entry and security guards around.

Yes, my friend, we have a small 15 acre farm...and the animals may gossip amongst themselves but they can not take the "talk" to town.....LOL Where you live sounds like a lovely place to live...if I coul not live on my farm...I would want to live like you do, my friend... I could scream at the top of my lungs for an hour and never disturb anyone...while my animals might think I was crazy but the local sheriff would never know it...LMAO Thanks for sharing with me...

I'm the kinda person who tends to keep to myself and would enjoy the country life over the city life just for those reasons. I don't like to be the center of attention. I prefer that others don't know my business..but living in an apartment complex..everyone knows everyone elses business. I hope to move to the country eventually and get out of my fish bowl.

Sweetmimzim, I wish that for you as well...there have been times in my life when the "fish bowl" was easier because of career choices..... I am a private person too...and it works so much better when you can't even see your neighbors...LOL Thanks for sharing with me...

We live in an area where the neighbours don't bother about each other, and I have done daft things like walk over the road and pick dandelion leaves for our rabbit, no one bats an eyelid, no one watches. No twitching curtains and no nosey neighbours, bliss! Everyone keeps themselves to themselves, I would hate to live in a goldfish bowl, I'm lucky where I live!

Not anymore. Several years ago we used to live in town and our neighbors were only a few feet from us on both sides. Definitely a residential neighbor. I didn't like it. We live in the country now on a small farm. Closest neighbor now is 1/4 mile away. When I walk outside in the mornings, the only ones looking is our horses too. Our driveway is a 1/4 mile long. It's nice to not have to worry about cats getting run over like when we lived in the city. I appreciate the privacy here.

We could be neighbors then....cause that sounds like my house....and I truly love it as well... Like the idea of privacy and the safety of the kids in the yard without traffic or strangers..... Thanks for sharing, my friend....
