LPGA over Gold Cup?

Last sunday the United States national soccer team defeated arch-rival Mexico to win it's second straight Gold Cup for the first time in history. I completely understand that I am in the minority as a soccer fan in this country but could this feat at least get mentioned in mainstream sports media? It was easier to find out who won the LPGA tournament this past weekend then find the final score of USA's defeat of Mexico (it was 2-1 by the way). Is women's golf really more popular than our national team playing in a major international competition?
