I have a daughter-in-law who refuses to eat the fesh eggs that my chickens lay....she does not like it when I cook them for her childrn when they are here...
The eggs that I get from my chickens are the big brown colored eggs....when cooked the white cooks up light and fluffy...it stands firm immediately after being removed from the shell....the yolks are a rich golden yellow color....quite often with double yolks....
The eggs she buys from the store are white...they have been sitting on a variety of shelves for a minimum of 30 days before being put out on the store schelves for sale...the whites are very thin and runny, the yolk is pale yellow in color.....they must cook for a few seconds to stand firm...
So I ask you...which do you prefer....fresh eggs or store bought eggs????
AND why????

OMG !!!! Fresh eggs by a massive long shot. Free Range are soooo beautiful. They have more flavour and better nutrients. The brought ones from the caged farms are dull in colour (yolk) and they just dont look healthy, and Im sure they are not.

I agree that the store bought eggs could not posibly be as healthy as the fresh ones, in my opinion....
Thanks for sharing with me...and I agree the free-range chicken eggs are prettier and taste so much better...

Definitely fresh eggs! I grew up eating them all the time cos' we used to have chickens. I LOVE going out and collecting the eggs and getting my mom to make them for me. Now, I have to get the ones from the store. Hate it. I try to get the brown ones and the ones that are supposedly from free-range chickens and all but not exactly sure how much space they actually have to run about. But nothing compares to having the fresh ones. Why doesn't your daughter-in-law like them for your grandkids? Doesn't she know that that is the best thing you can feed them?

I am not really sure...I guess maybe because she knows exactly where they come from...she will not eat chicken at my house that she did not watch me buy at the store either....
My son agrees with me and you about the difference in nutritional value so the kids do eat them here but she rolls her eyes and tells them...."babies, you do not have to eat those if you don't like them".....URGHHHHHHHH!!
There really is a vast difference...which you were closer, I donate several dozen eggs to the local food pantry every week so that single mothers can have them for their children too...

I was born with a lot of allergies and egg is one of the food that I should avoid. I normally bought fresh eggs like the one you described. A friend recommended fresh organic eggs instead to me. Not only is it pesticides free but gives me the chance to eat egg again. It tastes good and best of all, doesn't triggered my allergies.

talk about judging a book by its cover, the color of the shells are due to the type of hen and I would much prefer fresh eggs to old and stale ones that if you leave any egg out on a room temperature counter for 20 minutes or more you have lost 1/2 of it nutritional value. Her eggs are from force fed stay in barn raised chickens you eggs are free range and fresh. Her stubborn ideas versus yours. You win. The only time I ever used older eggs was to make pickled eggs, and for some reason the shell comes off more readily, perhaps because the yoke and white have shrunk from being old.

most likely.
that's why you can test to see if an egg is fresh enough to use by putting it in a cup of water.
if it sinks, it is really fresh. if it stands on a point, the innards have shrunk just a little, so there's a small amount of air in it.
if it floats it's skanky. don't go there.

The thought of not eating them is ridiculous to me...but we all like them and her children love them...it is funny because she tells me that the kids do not really like eggs that well....and then she can not figure out why they eat eggs here so well....and will not even consider the possibility that it is because the eggs are fresher and taste better.....DAH!!!!
Thanks for the support, my friend....

I buy free range eggs, I think that I can call your chickens free range as well? The other eggs are from chickens that are forced to be in cages, they never see sunshine. They feed them fishmeal. And antibiotics are there number one medication. How on earth can it be healthy for human consumption. Free range eggs are very expensive here, but I'm willing to pay it. How about you sending me some of your eggs!

I would love to send you some fresh eggs...I donate eggs to the local food pantry every week...they provide fresh eggs to the people who are having difficulty purchasing food....
Yes, I would also call my chickens free range.....I would not think that chicken eggs from chickens fed antibiotics routinely would be very healthy either....
Thanks Annie...for sharing with me...wonder how I'll get eggs all the way to you....

I would pick the fresh eggs any day, but then again, I lived on a chicken farm for 6 months, and loved every minute of it! Indeed, we had a lot of double yolks, I hadn't noticed the richer color though, I am sure in time I would have! It is too bad your daughter doesn't understand the rich experience you get to enjoy with freshly laid eggs! But then again, I was fortunate to grow up with my fathers garden, who grew corn, pumpkins, squash, lettuce, tomatoes, etc, and when you do that, you also remember the bugs that destroy some of the crops, so it isn't as tasty when you remember the worms munching on some of the produce. Never thought there was anything wrong with a fresh egg, except you might see a little poop on the outside of it. comes with the territory!

LOL! no problem! If I could go back now,I'd really enjoy my fathers ripe tomatoes, or even my roommate's hens eggs!
you tend to take things for granted sometimes until you have been away from it, then you just miss it. And, there is nothing better than fresh corn on the cob either.Yummy!

I always wash my eggs before using them...do not want to transfer anything to my cooking utensils...LOL
I think that she just has never been around it and maybe the thought of knowing where it comes from bothers her...
I raise alot of our fruits and veggies too...she finds this strange as well....
Thanks, Saralee for sharing your feelings with me..

I'd love to start keeping chickens.
we've got the space, and everyone else is starting to agree that it would be nice to have chickas.
quite a few people in the village have them, so we normally end up getting eggs from them, for now.
but I want some lovely chatty girls of my own.

I get mine from the back yard where the chicken pen is located...they have a house with nest boxes and a protective fence to keep out the foxes....it is about 125' x 125' so they have lots of room to run....
Yes....love them!
Thanks so much for sharing with me...

In Singapore, it is illegal to rear chickens in our houses. So nope, haven't tried freshly laid eggs before.
And I haven't seen white chicken eggs before. How strange lol. The eggs we buy from the stores are all brown colored ones - like your freshly dropped ones.
Do they bleach the eggs for the stores where you are? :P

Thanks, I have seen white eggs before - but they are duck eggs. Guess we can have green eggs too if you find the right breed.:P

The color of the eggs is detemined by the breed of the chicken laying them....many breeds lay white eggs and those are sold widely here in the USA...they also sell brown eggs but at an increased price....
No, they do not bleach eggs here...
I sent you a photo of a naturaly white egg...just so you could see one...LOL

hm i think it is same either fresh eggs or store eggs because as long as this eggs still not contain any chemical substance it still can eat, but i prefer eating fresh eggs because it more natural..

I don't think I have ever had the opportunity to eat fresh eggs. I'm a city girl- so fresh eggs aren't easliy found at the corner store :) But if I had a choice- I would choose fresh over store bought any day!

She says that they are "yucky" and she can't eat them...she says the same thing about cooked chicken unles she watches me buy them at the store...I guess that she is too much of a city girl....
Being a country girl most of my life...it is all a natural art of feeding your family the best...it is how I was raised..so I have a difficult time with understanding this....
But, you know me...I respect her right not to eat them...yeah, it kinds irritates me to have to make 2 different "types" of eggs for breakfast when she is here but I always do so....

We buy fresh eggs when ever we can. I love them and prefer them. We get them from two different places. There is a little market opened one day a week that sells them there, from a local farm, or we go out to a friends farm and get them. I pretty much like them for the same reasons you do. Besides what you already mentioned. Fresh eggs are better for you. Store bought eggs are bleached.

Wow, I haven't had fresh eggs since I was a young child. I actually do prefer fresh eggs over store bought eggs. But where I now live fresh eggs aren't available so I am stuck buying eggs from the store. These days I don't use eggs that much.
I think your daughter probably feels more comfortable eating eggs and meat bought from the store because she didn't know them before it was time to eat them. I doubt that I could raise an animal to eat it either.

I know that my DIL was raised in the city...having been raise in the country most of my life...raising my own food sources is "natural" to me...we were raised knowing that some of the animals were to end up in the freezer...we never questioned it....it was jus a fact of life on the farm....
Thanks, my friend....

I perfer a fresh egg to store bought any day. But it is easier to get a store bought egg then it is fresh ones sometimes. The travel to get a fresh egg is longer then that to go to the grocery store. But i do think that they have a better flavor and are fluffier then the ones you buy from a store. I have also gotten a few times an egg that smelled bad right after purchasing from a store, this has made me very weary of the egg.

I know a chicken farmer who told me that the eggs on the shelves in the grocery stores are always a minimum of 30 days old....depending on handling....the nutrition may be minimal at this point...
I normally have 2-3 dozen eggs fresh each day....I donate the ones that I have not used each week to the local food pantry....
