Snow in South Africa - 27 June 2007

27 June 2007 - Snow in the Free State - South Afri - There is snow all over South Africa today. This is a picture from a farm in the Free State, Bloemfontein area taken at 6h30 this morning.

It is freezing cold and we have snow. Usually the higher mountain regions has snow, but this year we have snow on the farms in Bloemfontein, the Free State and even in the towns of Johannesburg and Pretoria. It is absolutely amazing. Never have we experienced this in the 15 years that I have been living in Johannesburg/Pretoria.

yep... this weather is going crazy... global warming and all kinds of other stuff like that are to blame... here, in Romania is drought like never before... I think we should transport some of the water/snow from one part of the world where is to much to the other part:P... is there any other solution?:)

And they say glogal climate change is a myth!!! From soggy Texas, I can say this is the wierdest weather we've had.

I have to agree, but it is making history. Global climate change is definitely not a myth. I wish I lived closer to it. It would be so great. Thanks for your response.

Well to us June is summer but not a lot of Summer at the moment at all at the moment where my Kids live it is flooded I have never known floods like this in the UK

We do not have rain in our winter season and so snow is even more weird. We have our rain in the summer. But with all this global climate change it really is too weird for words. But it has been fun though and it is nice to hear people speaking about the snow and not crime for a change.

I think it could be effect of extreme global climatic change as an effect of global warming. If we won't do anything soon, we will experience more drastic changes in climate.

It does snow here in Australia, but not in my town. It is snowing up on the mountains, so it is quite chilly here. The weather is so strange everywhere at the moment. Best wishes to you, lucille

We also usually get snow on the higher mountains here, but now it is actually in people's backyards which is so very rare... It has caused much excitment... It is rather amazing...

snowy streets - snow wet cold
I know that the seasons down there in your part of the world in South Africa is the opposite of ours up here in the northern hemisphere but it is still hard to realize that you could be having that kind of cold weather. Here where I live it is very hot. I would like to have some of your cold and snow. We usually experience only one snow during the winter her but it really plays havoc because they don’t have the equipment or the driving experience that is need for snow. Enjoy the cool weather while you can

Well, I really don't do too well in cold weather. I am a summer girl through and through. But this experience is really rare and so it is fantastic for us. Our snow is alot more icy than the parts of the world that experience snow regularly. Anyway, it is a great experience all the same and creating much excitement all over.

i live in delmas, and we got snow too! i also did a discussion on it. maybe we wont have to wait long before it hits again. these changing conditions are scaring me a lot. but i try to get the good out of every situation.

Hi Zorrogirl! Wow that is just amazing! I live in Centurion and there was no snow here only in Pierre Van Ryneveld. But friends in JHB had loads of snow and sent us pictures and all. It was amazing to see. Yip it is the signs of the times... global climate change... it is weird to be experiencing this on the one hand and exciting on the the other. Thanks for your response.
