Many of us dont know what is metabolism especially Indians.Different people has different rate of metabolism. People with faster metabolism gets to burn off fat and calories faster where the people with slower metabolism, have to work extra harder just to keep fit. Below is an article I found on how to speed up your metabolism in Health Magazine 2006 1. Get active - Do a mixture of aerobic and resistance training for best results. be more active in your daily life too. 2. Eat little and often -eating small, regular meals throughout the day, rather than one or two large meals 3. Eat plenty of protein-rich foods - But make sure you choose low-fat protein foods such as lean meat, skinless chicken and low-fat dairy products. 4. Spices like chilli are thought to raise metabolism 5. green tea - help to increase metabolism 6. being very cold can increase metabolism. 7. being very hot is also thought to boost metabolism 8.last but most important one EAT BREAKFAST! Hope this article will help you build and speed up your metabolism

Thank you for the pointers, Naadia, but to supplement my diet, I already take green tea, exercise, eat a lot of chicken, eat free foods often, for snacks, and most certainly eat breakfast. That is the main meal of my day. Also, I take my diet supplement comprising mango, goji berry and acai juices, which also helps. I support all that you say though... nice one! Brightest Blessings.

Yes, I always have been particular about eating breakfast because I was brought up to know that it gets you started for the day, as it raises your metabolism. This, in turn, burns off unwanted calories. I'm on a diet at the moment Nadia, and I have to eat three meals a day without fail, breakfast being the most important of the day. Brightest Blessings.

i got one more tip:article says to "Try a CLA supplement - more extensive studies need to be carried out before any definite conclusions can be drawn, but research has shown that conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) might increase muscle and therefore boost metabolism". i dont know what is this CLA.any idea?

I already have a fast metabolism, always found it easy to eat what I want and not worry about the extra kg it may put on as I have never had problems in fact I've only had a extra fast metabolism and had to take medication to slow it down... maybe great tips for those who are looking to try and help loose weight.... Breakfast is the most important meal of the day you are better of skipping Dinner than breakfast because you are working that offf during the day and usually after dinner you just sleep which in turns stores the fat.....

Hi. Thanks alot for the useful tips. I have tried many things to speed up my metabolism but nothing seems to be working for me since I have gotten a little bit older. I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted to and not have to worry about it, but here lately, I am still energetic but my weight stays the same. I try to eat breakfast sometimes, but I get up so early, I really don't feel hungry to eat it. I eat around lunch time and snack a little throughout the day and then eat supper. I hope to lose a few pounds soon and I wish I could boost my metabolism also.

This is very interesting. I already knew some of the things you explain here, we learn them in school here, but it is good to see them in a practical way. To be honest, I am a bit unhealthy on this points... I don't like sports or training and I love foods that have fat (such as fried things). I know this is a mistake of mine and I'll try to correct it... By the way... can you explain further point 7? lol!!!! Of course that increases metabolism!!!

k i'll explain 7...i mean going in sauna or steam room!being very hot is thought to boost metabolism by about 20 percent (but check you don’t have any underlying medical problems that mean you shouldn’t go in saunas or steam rooms).i think now it is clear and dont be lazy with your health!

Thanks for the useful tips. I have been looking for some help like this to increase my metabolism. I have not heard of chillies. Probably it is true that chillise play a part in increased metabolism. Look at those people who takes hot and spicy food, they have slim bodies!

Spices like chilli are thought to raise metabolism by up to 50 percent for up to three hours after eating, due to increasing heart rate.choose curries which have the lowest calorie and fat content.

i think it is not temperature!being very hot means having a sauna or going for steam bath.(but check you don’t have any underlying medical problems that mean you shouldn’t go in saunas or steam rooms). and i dont understand the term being very cold!may be take bath twice or more during hot season!i am not sure!

Thanks for the good info. Don't know how much is really effective as for true I dislike chilli. Wow its really irritating whenever I accidentally get a chilli in vegetables. Other points are good. I have a fair amount of metabolism sometimes digestive disorder disturbs though. But I get a very less time for this exercise. Tea I take but not green tea. Hope other tea have some effect. Anyway will try your other methods also.

not just chilli,Spices like chilli are thought to raise metabolism by up to 50 percent for up to three hours after eating, due to increasing your heart rate. but be care about which curries have the lowest calorie and fat content. and for green tea, there’s evidence that green tea contains antioxidants that speed up metabolism.

Great tips! People concerned about their fitness will surely find this useful. I don't think I'm one among them. What brings me here is the word 'metabolism'. I find the use of this word in this context interesting. I think when you say 'metabolism' you are referring to the process where food gets broken down to simpler substances (glucose) and these providing energy to the cells of the body. I guessed this from the some of the responses where people talk about 'fast' and 'slow' metabolism. With the hope that my assumption turns out to be right, let me tell you what I think about the rate of 'metabolism'. The amount of fibre in the food should also influence how quickly you metabolize that food. YOur 6th point says, 'being very cold' increases metabolism. Your 7th point says 'being very hot' boosts metabolism. Aren't the two sentences contradictory. Well, from your explanation somewhere in this discussion,I understand what you mean by 'being very hot'. But, I don't understand what you mean by 'being cold'...

Does green tea help your metabolism? I always drink it because there are large cans of it where I work and it is only 99 cents (1.07 after tax :( ). I bought it because io was thirsty and it was cheap and realized that I loved it. Now I always drink it. I am doing something good for myself, I guess!

Nice topic. Really people do not care about metabolism. Most of us do not know the importance also. You have put up here very good informations through this topic. Though I apply most of these. One more thing I do is Yoga/Pranayama which is helpful in improving various systems in our body. I do it regularly in the morning for at least half hour. My Pranayama is based on Swami Ramdeoji's programme. I find this very useful. It helps in burning the extra fat from body. This keeps me fit all the day, mentally and physically.

These are really useful tips. But for people who always sit and work, especially IT people, the fat accumulates in one area. Even if you are active and burn the fat, will it have much effect?
